110V Dilemma

So an overall experience from real users points to the step down solution being entirely feasible.

I am quite convinced about it. But, I would proceed only at the right price point. There is still risk of baggage mishandling for the electronics. I hope to get a real good deal.

I have brought over many electronic items from DVD players, Projectors, receivers, speakers by hand carrying them, in their original boxes and in luggage and have not had one breakdown or damage. The trick is to package them properly or hand carry them if they're too delicate (as in the case of a projector). One trick is to go down to Walmart or other U.S. mega-store and pick up a whole bunch of athletic socks on the cheap and stuff them all around the component in the luggage. Since they're fluffy, they absorb shock quite nicely. Not only do you get your electronics fix on your return, you also don't have to worry about smelly feet for a loooong time!

Due to weight limitations (Chocolates for 20 kgs spoilt my AVR plans) and changing priorities(budget limitation), I went in for a bundle of different things -
1.Oppo UDP 203 region free version from 220 electronics (my first serious source apart from turntable)
2.Dared DV-6C - a no-frills 5.1 integrated amplifier which takes analog input only (awesome product)
3.SMSL Q5 Pro (My dad is waging a war with me for this)
4. Intel NUC6CAYH
5. A few accessories like optical cables, aux cables, banana plugs, stylus cleaner and record brush.

I shall try to post some pics after tending to the family/visitors.

From a Denon x 4300 to a SMSL Q5 Pro
SMSL Q5 Pro is for PC audio to drive the Tannoys (currently driven by national panasonic 2 in 1). My dad wants it for his bedroom in which case I shall use Dared for my PC.
I am using optical out from the NUC to input SMSL. I find SMSL too detailed/digital as I was using analog out from PC without any DAC. I shall give it a few weeks to get used to this amount of detail before commenting further. I can also do AB by plugging in Meridian Explorer DAC and inputting into Aux-in of SMSL.

Interesting one.. So you plan to connect this to Oppo ?

I bought Oppo so that my Onkyo AVR continues to do the AVR duty (it is a 1994 model I think). It has an awesome Tuner, decent Phono and clean power. I have already got excellent results. Even my TV speakers sound awesome when connected to Oppo.

Bought Dared DV-6C primarily for passive bi-amping although it can be used for 5.1 duty as well. I need to get my AV furniture in place in living room and then set up the secondary setups)

Dared DV-6C has got extreme reviews (rave review in 6moons and bashed in another forum). This was a blind buy as I am trusting 6moons. I have taken a deep dive of buying matched trio 12AX7 tubes as well. I am hoping to finish the set up in next couple of months.

Edit : Dared piece is a used one picked up for $200 (MSRP ~$550)

You can connect with USB cable too between NUC & SMSL Q5 Pro.. Very nice amp & features..

So 5/7.1 multichannel out from Oppo to Onkyo AVR..

Great.. Does this mean you will need to use passive sub with Dared DV-6C ?..

Elangoas,
USB of SMSL samples on 96Khz vs 192Khz from optical. For proper AB, I would test it with Meridian Explorer, which can do 192Khz on aux. It's options galore.

I do not have any sub. So, I am turning off the output in Oppo and AVR now. Even I were to go for SW with Dared, it would be active as the SW channel gets an amplification of measly 65W. Not sufficient at all for a room of 230 sq ft.

Dared gives me the flexibility between 5.0 and bi-amping. The stock tube-amp sounded warm. I am waiting to finish the carpentry for a dust free environment. Will have to seek the experts help around this.

Oh yeah.. Missed it..

Yes.. an active sub would be better..
