I have been offered this 120" diagonal fixed frame screen for 23K. Package contains screen fabric plus the fixed frame that can be assembled. Colour is white, matte.

Importantly, this is by a company called KROSS. Anybody heard of it? Is it good? Should I go ahead?

Please advise. Thanks all.

You can take a look at da-lite screens as well. They are renowned and appreciated worldwide. I got a quotation of around 18K for approx 90 inch manual pull down screen.

Dalite is good, if you want to go for cheaper options then you have grandivew and even lower you would get Liberty screens. Have not heard of Kross, i have grandview 150" Diagonal at home.

Saikatbiswas82 and Dushie,

Thanks for coming in. Had not heard of this Kross brand. Suspect it must be chinese stuff.

As for Dalite, never even dreamt of asking for a catalogue or price -- I think it is too expensive.

Have a lot of DIY ideas but the difficulty is in getting workers just exactly when I am free. If nothing materializes, I could go for Greenlam laminate ( see my reply at http://www.hifivision.com/home-theatre-projectors-screens/48369-laminate-screens.html).

I will wait for some more time for experienced members to chip in before taking a final call.

Thanks all.

Please check out Liberty as its durable and may fit in your budget. Would always recommend a screen. Otherwise you can try the DIY route if you want to go for a fixed screen.

Dushie,

Very kind of you for doing that bit of homework which I should have done. Grateful, indeed. Your mail has arrived just in time -- weekend! I have already gone through the first link and learnt that forum member Sash bought Liberty Grandview pulldown (mannual) from Sanghavi Impex, Bangalore. I have just called the Impex person for details and quotations.

Feels really nice to be in this good company. Thanks again.

Hello all,

Just received a quotation from Mssrs Sanghavi Impex, Bangalore:

1. Grandview 120" wall mount 18320/- (inclusive of tax)
2. Grandview 120" wall mount motorized 57250/- (inclusive of tax)
3. Grandview 120" fixed frame 755700/- (inclusive of tax)

Is not the price difference simply unbelievable, assuming of course, that the screen fabric is the same? Or is there a difference in the fabric used?

Out of curiosity: Has anybody used the fabric of the manual wall mount screen to build a fixed frame screen later?

Thanks in advance.

Please dont do a typo thats potential of a heart attack :The additional zero in third option?

Those prices seem too expensive. I bought the Grandview 133" motorized for ~ ?42000 and 120" motorized for ~ ?33000 (both incl taxes) from abhi projections in Jan of this year. Even taking into account the depreciated value of rupee, these prices are too much IMO.

Price of non motorized manual pull down screen seem about right though.

Edit: one more advice. Go big. If you have a room big enough with about 13+ feet viewing distance and your projector can handle the bigger screen, go for the biggest one you can afford.

Htfan17,

Very, very sorry. Here is how it should have been: Grandview 120" fixed frame 75570/- (inclusive of tax)

Thanks. I look forward to read your input

Hellow all,

Messrs. Sanghavi Impex, Bangalore, came down by 1000/-Rs. for their 120" manual pull-down screen (from 18.3k to 17.something. The interesting thing is that they were noncommittal about wrinkles and waves. They said that this is an issue over time with all hanging screens, manual or electrical.

I remember to have read a few members on this issue. Any new input?

Thanks all.

Dhar: Sorry looks like I was mis informed, they are not selling screen technics from Australia, I have asked them for clarification.

Madbullram,

That's alright. I may have to reconsider my laminate option more seriously. No point, in spending 18-20K for something that may develop wrinkles and waves in an year or two, right?

It all depends how you handle your screen. My Grand view screen is manual pull down and is over 3 years old, no wrinkles or waves till now. Plus there are plenty of other users out here. So i don't think it is something major and it happens over long time, depending how you handle the screen.

west10100,

In the end (that is, when my dedicated HT is finished on the terrace) I will be definitely going for a fixed screen, there is no doubt about it. Till then (may be for about six months) I want something in my drawing room and I am in no mood to spend money on something purely temporary.

That means, then, two things: re-do the wall paint or go for laminates. Right?
