Hi All

I have plasma tv and its speakers are really weak. Please suggest some good 2.0 or 2.1 speakers for the same. I mostly watch movies so dialogues should be crisp and clear. Not interested for 5.1 system.

What is the budget and what is the model of the TV and DVD/Media Player? What are the audio/video output terminals available from the TV and player?

Hi

My source is TV itself - Samsung Plasma PS51E490. It has digital out as well as 3.5 out. Does quality depend on port also ? The situation may change by end of week as i am receiving my blu-ray player having digital out and hdmi port and if i decide to retain it :)

Also i was wondering if i can set up a system where my bookshelf speakers are common between TV and Stereo system(PC based) ? in that case i can bump up the budget to 25K for speakers. IF not then I will be satisfied with good 2.1 speakers say upto 5-7K. But then again if some speaker costing 2.5/3 K is really good then please do suggest it.

Sanket.

for a budget of upto:

3k or slightly more - Altec Lansing VS2621 / Creative T3100 / Edifier P3060 / F&D A520 or F680 (i have no personal experience with any of them....the first 3 are generally seen by the public as market-leaders in budget-2.1 category....the last one is from a brand which lately has been garnering enthusiastic reviews from public....i would recommend you to select either the 2nd or 3rd one....for general use they should be more than able to satisfy you).

7k or slightly more - Logitech Z623 (you won't be disappointed with these).

and my personal view is that you buy separate 2.0 bookshelf speakers for music-listening on your PC, that's because with 2.1 system and its subwoofer, you could experience movies/games better on your TV, whereas the 2.0 systems are better at music-handling & reproduction.
