Hi guys,

When do you think new TV models will be launched in India this year? March-April? Or do you think it will be more like June-July? I don't think LG's OLED TVs are gonna launch before September.

I've seen a drop in price of 65" 4k TVs in USA. Panasonic recently launched some at ~US$ 1600. Do you think we can see similar price in India? Can similar TVs be launched at Rs. 1.5 L? What I have seen is that, in USA, discounts happen later down the year. In India, I don't see huge discounts ever, especially for costlier models. I believe that is because the retailers don't stock up expensive models in India and don't run huge inventory risk on them. So they don't need to provide huge discounts. In USA, people are much more willing to buy expensive models. Hence, retailers have them in huge quantities and then start discounting the TVs around Black Friday and Superbowl.

I would have really loved a 65" 4k OLED TV had they dropped the price to Rs. 2.5-3 L. But that is a wishful thinking (maybe 2015 models but no way the B6 or C6, and obviously not the E6 or G6). The worst part is that Indian retailers don't provide much discount after launch - the only good discount that I can see is 55" 4k OLED TV selling at 2.9 L when the MRP is 3.84 L, which I believe is a good discount (LG itself doesn't support such discounts in India or even in Europe as it plans to move only 1 million OLED TVs this year as there is a constraint on its supply capabilities. So whenever LG needs to sell a little more, it drops the price in USA and achieves its sales target for OLEDs. Maybe we will see lower prices in 2018 when the new plant kicks in.).

The 4k lg oled tv's are probably the best picture I've ever seen on any large display. I hope HDR and HFR make it back in soon (though I imagine it wont happen before the next version of hdmi)

All the 2016 LG OLED TVs support HDR10. They have UHD Premium Certification. Additionally, at least E6 and G6 support Dolby Vision too! Not ure about B6 and C6 (there is so much confusion around this!). I'm not sure whether the 65" model released in India last year supported HDR, but EF659500 does support HDR (the latest 2015 model released in USA).

If I can get a 65" 2016 model somehow, I may sell my kidneys and a portion of my liver to get one. Alternatively I am thinking of getting myself a budget 65" UHD TV this year (LG, Samsung, Sony or Sharp) and buy a 65" OLED TV in 2018 when LG's new plant starts manufacturing panels and the price comes down. LG has set a target of selling 1 million OLED TVs this year and 1.5 million OLED TVs in 2017. So, I don't expect the price to come down by much in 2017 either.

Meanwhile, does anyone know how reliable pricedekho's upcoming television list is? Some of the prices are ridiculous, but can the release dates be trusted? Guess we will find out on January 28 (Sharp is releasing a few TVs then, apparently - I guess they are last year's models released in USA).

So, does anyone have any idea when 2016 TV models will come to India? Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic and Vizio have already announced their models in other countries. Thanks.

The 2016 models of Sony are already in India. I was interested in W800c or W950c and found that while searching online the 2016 lineup is gonna launch in March 2016.
So I tossed a gamble at the local store saying "the 2016 models are already coming, so what's the discount" :)
I was offered some discount, although I've yet to make up my mind. I now see the W950D, W800D models on display now.

Wow, 55" W800D is priced at Rs. 1.35 lakhs! Full HD! They have launched 65" 4k at ~$2500. Using a US$ Rupee exchange rate of 100, I would expect a 65" 4k TV at Rs. 2.5 lakhs. But 55" FHD for a mid-tier TV (not talking about W950D) at Rs. 1.35 lakhs quashes those dreams.

Flipkart lowered the price of Sony series by 10-15%. Please have a look at it. Even the local store should be offering similar discount. BTW, what is the difference between W950c and W950D?

most local stores in Bangalore have the 800C series sold out (50-55")
Only used is available. PAI near my house had it selling @ 73K for 50 & 100K for 55 for new piece 3 days back.

W950c is last year's model. W950d should be this year's model.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
