Hi Friends,

I would like to upgrade my current 5.1 speaker setup to 7.1. I have got KEF KHT 2005.3 speaker set and Onkyo 608 AVR.

I would like to add 2 FS speakers but don't want to replace my existing center speaker and sub as they are almost new.

Need your suggestion regarding speakers which will go well with my existing 5.1 setup. My usage is 70% movies & 30% music. My room size is only 14*11.

If you usage is 70% movies, then i think there is no need for FS..... Even if you have a FS, the crossover in the AVR will kick in & cut all the freq below 80Hz to Subwoofer....So effectively you will not use FS....

When you meant 7.1 setup, did you refer front height speakers (or) surround back speakers ?

Good that you brought out this point, I also had this question whether I really need FS. I have not fully decided whether to go for front height, wide or surround back but mostly would be going for surround back. Though I have made the provision in my new flat which is under construction for all options.

Why? When dialogue pans from your centre speaker to the left or right FS speaker, it will sound different. Do you really want that?

You already have 5 identical speakers, which keeps sounds consistent all the way around. Just add another pair of the same speakers (HTS2001.3) for a 7.1 set-up that will continue to maintain that consistency.

I see that your AVR supports both Audyssey DSX mode which uses front wides & Dolby Pro Logic IIz which uses front heights...

Having used both Front wides & surround back, front wides create a fantastic sound stage....Try them before you decide to settle for surround back...

IF your seating is too close to the back wall, then don't do surround-back speakers (not enough space behind you to make a meaningful separation between the surrounds and surround-backs).

As suggested will add similar speakers. I too was in dilemma regarding front wide/height or surround back, now I know which one to go for :)

Thank you guys :)
