...and the gist is that there is no big diff except for a handful of sources. Lets revisit this in 2011 and I can put money that we wouldn't have advanced that far by then...

Another point to note is that, even here in US, most of the HD channels are just 720p. Only Blu ray disks are mastered in 1080p. more reasons to wait...

sort of right. HD channels could be 1080i also (look into your STB settings). the new defunct HD DVD disks are also mastered in 1080 P and they are available, so are xbox and ps3 games and there are also camcorders that do 1080P video
