Airtel HD problem with 'movies now' channel

Hi All,

I noticed a weired problem with my setup two days back. The "Movies Now" HD channel (Airtel DTH) produces very bad audio out from my AVR=>Speaker. I feel like my center and front are not having any sound at all and all the sound goes to my surround :confused:
I am sure the problem is not with my Audio setup as other HD channels like Star Movies & Star GOLD HD etc are just fine. I have a good working setup since 1+years and all the other sources just work well.
I suspect the issue is because of the transmission or something wrong with my DTH itself. Anybody else noticed the same problem?

No. It works fine for me. I use Onkyo receiver.

I think there is some problem in Airtel. i have connected directly to TV i also have the same problem.

Yeah I noticed it too yesterday while watching Iron Man on Airtel HD - Movies Now - connected via Optical Digital out to an Onkyo 616.

Dialog goes to surround channels.

I think it's a transmission issue.
 
This certainly is transmission issue. I talked to the Airtel DTH customer care, but oh god..... they are not able to understand the problem itself. however i have registerd a complain and waiting for an answer. Is there any other way to log complain withe them, apart from CC ...:mad:

Logging a complaint is like trying to climb a sheer cliff. Airtel phone support folks are MORONS... One way out is - yell at them - they transfer to level 2 support who have atleast some inkling of what you're trying to say...

But I doubt this problem will be understood by even the L2 folks.

In any case, its a transmission, not a reception issue - i.e the issue is with Airtel, not with the STBs.

I dont think customer support will be able to solve this issue.

I remember once upon a time when HD was in its infancy, Nat Geo HD on Tata Sky used to throw the dialog to all channels.

problem is still present (at least till last night)...
Not much comments on the thread... seems very less TRP for 'movies now' :) Or everyone watching this do not have this bad audio problem.

The main problem is... I have written multiple times to Airtel for correcting Dolby audio on all the HD channels; as either they don't provide it correctly or unnecessarily implement DRC on the original audio provided by the broadcasting channel. But these Airtel morons have employed some illiterate fellows who can't just disable the DRC flag or just provide the original audio broadcast !!

All they need to do is...just simply broadcast the original audio without doing anything else and we all will be happy.

But we are on the mercy of these DTH providers who don't care at all about these issues; as majority of the customers are watching TV with stereo sound only and most of the customers don't realize about these issues. That's why these DTH providers also don't listen to 1 or 2 customers complaining about such issues.
All the time DTH companies claim that they have millions of satisfied customers with our PQ and AQ quality; how come you're facing these issues !!

I'm not sure about the current issue on Movies Now HD; as I have stopped watching movies and shows on these English channels due to nonsense censoring and lots of ads. I better watch them on Bluray or with the help of internet.

i have told uplink team that dialogues r coming from rear speaker and it needs to b checked. is that right?
 
This is one reason why I do not care about movie channels. George Lucas said that an immersive cinema experience is 50% video (large screen) and 50% audio, and I agree. That is one reason why I buy movies and do not even download - I want true HD video + sound.

Does Videocon provide original audio broadcast since they have more HD channels.

What I experience is the Center / front channels have very low sound and all the dialoges are going to surround speakers.
They (Uplink team) need to verify each channel's settings. Broadcasting the original Audio without any applying DRC or any other modification would be the best as technobhatt suggested :-)

I know. I was just hoping. Since Airtel is not going to bring back the two sports HD channels thought of moving out to Videocon but just wanted to know about the audio on HD channels. Usually the pic quality on HD channels on all DTH are equal or comparable to each other. It is only when it comes to audio and that too for those of us who are connected through the AVR when the trouble begins as most often the audio is compressed by the DTH providers. Earlier Sun HD used to broadcast the audio without any compression but it is a regional DTH and has one of the worst CC. Anyway was just hoping if there would be any DTH providers who broadcasts audio without DRC.

Just out of curiosity, may I ask how? Do you work for Airtel OR are a part of this industry etc.?

Anyway, if you do have contacts up there, can you find out if they have any plans to route Audio through HDMI?

I have a nice setup at home, but having to route Audio through Optical really bugs me!
 
Hi All, It is almost 7 days since it was posted that the issue would be resolved soon. But the issue still persists. Hope they get it done soon. Feels horrible having to "read" the Star Wars movies.

By any chance, did they pass on the bug to starmovies hd???? A few of the movies I recorded recently has almost nil sound in the front and center channel.
