Yup, amazing. I'm also moderately thrilled at noticing that about the only CD player (amidst maybe a dozen turntables) that found a place in this auditioning is a Philips/Marantz CD4000, which is also my all-time modding favourite, thanks to its simple and elegant single-stage analog signal path consisting of a current-out DAC to an integrating I/V converter. For standard 16/44.1 redbook CD audio, it's hard to beat the Philips CD723/CD753/CD4000 platform. Some early models also allow the 4x upsampling in the transport to be bypassed from the front panel alone, thus allowing NOS playback without any mods.
