Out of curiosity, I have often picked up a few small format drivers in 1" inch to 3" inch form factor from the local market. They are mostly fullrange units, sometimes they are clearance/overstock OEM units and sometimes general purpose unbranded Chinese items. I ve measured some of the units and found them having tight tolerances ie they measure so much alike. On listening, I ve found them having good mids and highs too. The small form factor makes them a very good candidate for line arrays.

The 2" ones (and larger ones) can make good 1 way arrays
where they can be tightly placed for a low center-to-center distance, pushing comb filtering outside the noticeable range.

The 1" units cant go low enough but still can make a good tweeter channel in a 2 way array.

A floor to ceiling array becomes feasible, like the one below

Was wondering whether anybody would have interest in a build?

I have been contemplating a shorter delay curved CBT array for my own use.

What is your expected expense (total for the build) or say for the items only, as carpentry cost can be region specific.
I have not personally heard line array ever, but would like to listen to. If convinced, will buy one too then.

Hi Sumanta,

This is not a group buy or group build.

I already have the drivers for my project. In the past good drivers were not available but now situation has changed. While there is no good and consistent source of them yet good ones do arrive now and then at various shops in the local market.

I am building a delay curved CBT which uses a line source to emulate a point source ie even though the drivers appear in a line array configuration, vertically, the wave front produced is of a point source. Thus it avoids the floor to ceiling reflection altogether. My array would be 2' or 3' in height. It needs DSP, many amplifiers and is complicated to build.

OTOH, a floor to ceiling array utilizes the floor and ceiling reflections in a good way and creates a cylindrical wavefront. This is simple to build and execute. So, I just wanted to know if anyone else in Hyderabad was thinking of such an array.

It would be interesting to compare both of these side by side.

Hi Sumanta,

This is not a group buy or group build.

I didn't ask for it.

I wanted to have a ballpark figure to consider such a DIY effort later.
Since you have been in this, you might have such a figure, was my thought while posting.

But do not mind to answer now, it is not so important anymore. It can be figured out once design principle is sorted.
