Hi

I have 2 questions

1) As 5.1 home theater speakers have builtIn amplifier, why should we use another amplifier (AV Receiver).

2) If i have a AV receiver which has the codecs for Dolby True HD & USB port. Will it play the hd movie in a Pen Drive (without need of a external blueray or DVD player)

Regards

1. Only those cheap Chinese 'home theater' boxes have built-in amplifiers. All good 5.1 speaker sets are passive type and you need an avr to drive these speakers. Only the subwoofer is powered in such speakers.

2. No. The usb ports in avr will play only music files. Not all avrs have usb port. You will need an external player like pc/hd media player/blu-ray player to play the files. The avr will decode the sound format.
