For 15K means, just go for the components which can be driven by the HU without amplification. Speakers with 50RMS rating would be good. Go for PHD or HAT imagine which are well rated and good frequency response curve. Does the car come with head unit?

In fact, compact cars are more suited for ICE than sedan. The acoustic qualities especially w.r.t bass would be much better.

I am curious to know why do you think that. The cabin is still a cabin, maybe a little smaller. It is only the exterior that is different.

I am equally curious to know why you think spending more on a compact car doesn't make sense as long as one can afford. I know someone riding an i10 with Rs. 1.5 lakh worth audio system in it. Its about mind over matters. Someone thinks car is enough but sound isn't. :)

Doesn't make sense to spend 25K on ICE for such a small compact car.

What matbhuvi must have referred to is the boot space. Sedans have 2 to 3 times more boot space. The bottom envelope of the rear speakers are spreading into the trunk, the volume of which could affect the sound, especially the bass. Have no idea whether small or large is better though.

There is quite a bit of science in subwoofer placement and positioning (angle, location etc) in car as well. I am not an expert in that. But, i have frequently heard from the experts that a hatch is much easier to ICE than a sedan. The bass would be much more upfront and mingle cleanly with the front. Sub 80Hz sound doesn't have direction. Some say it is south of 50Hz. But a subwoofer doesn't stop at 80Hz cutoff that we specify. There will be a roll off till around 200Hz (depending on the slope of LPF). That basically defines the integration of the sub with the front stage. The other aspects that affect are the material used for interiors, height of dash and volume of cabin. Those aspect remains same for hatch and sedan though.

When money is no object, one can splash it. But think about a small car. It has very bad acoustics. Lot of road and traffic noise filters in. Crack up the volume and car panels start vibrating. At least this is my experience. Finally it is an asset that will be sold in 5-6 years. I am not saying buy a crap stereo worth 5k, but for a small hatchback, I will cut the bar at 15k. I know of one person who has put a DVD entertainment system in his Zen (old model) with twin 5" LCD displays on the rear of front head rests. It is a personal voice, I know. Just that my opinion is not on the same lines.

Subwoofer in a compact? There is hardly any space in the boot as is. For a large sedan, I can understand. But it is a personal choice.
