Audioengine A5 - inputs required

I wouldn't recommend these until you hear them out. AE5 is what most people would like but KRKs are studio monitors. Both come in the same league. And the KRKs cost a lot more.

I would advise Aktimate Minis if you want to go higher than AE5 in the active route.

I heard KRKs in the shop where I bought my M-Audio AV-40, albeit a larger model. Frankly, I have been wishing ever since

1. The price of KRKs in India is significantly more than that of AE5 in India.

2. There was a review, I guess in this forum itself. KRKs and AE5 were close, more to personal preference. Overall, in some aspects the KRKs were a little better perhaps a little warmer, however the AE5 was close and ahead in some aspects as well.

3. I doubt it is advised to spend another 8k on them. Because around that price you have other options as well.

4. The KRKs are studio monitors and not regular bookshelves. So you must keep that in mind. They may be more analytical and dry compared to the AE5s.

5. I would suggest either AE5 or KRKs from abroad or Amp + Passive.

anybody in touch with the audioegine guys here in India...they are not answering my queries :(

audioengine AE5 guys doesn't have AE5 black in color, they only have white color AE5, I have asked them and they they don't have black in color:)

even bajaao guys didn't have when i asked them last time but they said AE5 black color will come after 1 month so may be they have black color in stock, but AudioEngine India do not have black color as far as I think.

both are absolutely great speakers.
However, KRK Rokit are studio monitors and are near-field speakers. therefore they are better if you are looking at very personal listening, very close to a desktop.

OTOH, AE5 are standard bookshelves which are designed for music listening, over everything else.

In short, KRK if you want a revealing & near-field sound. AE5 if you are looking for the opposite!

Guys,
I was in same research sometime back.. dropped idea of AE5 .. for the heat issue it has.. just search for AE5 heat issue.. might not be a reason to drop..but didnt want to take risk in Chennai heat :)
cheers,
kannan

heat issue i think really depends on type of music you play, i play trance which has continuous bass beats so that takes a lot of amp power.

So it is still a good speaker for the money i think if you play easy listening/rock, im quite confident you would be fine. end of the day its your choice all the best.
