AVR and speakers from Yamaha

While one can do the decoding at the BD player, I tried that for some time, its still better to do that at the AVR.

The reason being
1. BD players that can do 7.1 analog out are more expensive than those that cannot
2. AVR's generally offer more options in crossovers and bass management than BD players for every speaker.
3. Good quality analog interconnects (buying 8 of them) is quite expensive compared to a single hdmi cable

BTW, if you are sending analog out from the bd player, the dac of the bd player will be used and not the avr. The AVR then acts only as an amp.

1) Have a good BD player that does it's job well - extract pciture details and sound.

And preferably works with USB as well. So that you can plug in USB Stick/Hard Disk and play media files from camera/internet/archive on disk.

That would save you from switching disks and you can store all your movies on hard disk.

I think such players start from 12k onwards (not sure about the price).

2) Have a good AVR that does what ...? (pls help so that I can make an informed buy)

There are three main functions:

1. Switching between inputs, so that you can terminate wires from cable / DTH / FM / Video console / Laptop on AVR and only one cable goes out to TV.

2. Setup and calibration

3. Amplification

4. Multi room (PLay movie on room 1 and FM on room 2)

IMHO, all AVRs are same w.r.t #1. Regarding #2, some are easier but its a one time activity.

Feature #3 (Amplification) is the thing that differentiates AVRs.

If you have few specific AVRs in mind, we can compare Amplifier of each.

You need not use analogue for this purpose. You can send decoded signals over HDMI. (Optical / Coaxial wont work since they can't carry that much data)

E.g. the AVR that I have supports up to 8 channels of PCM at 96 KHz / 24 bit. This is more than sufficient for transporting decoded DTS HD signals.

You can plug you AVR to computer via HDMI or service port to check that.

I have been thinking of Denon 1911, Onlyo 608 but they are a bit dearer and so this post.

What are you recommendation on #3 for 25K-30K range? I am not too aware of different models and the ones I mentioned above are largely due to their visibility on this and other forums.

Shipping would be too expensive. This only makes sense if someone can carry it back from US as part of baggage.

I had a budget of 12k, so picked up Yamaha V665BL (Amazon cost was $249). It has loads of features, but poorer amplifier.

On a lighter not, its cheaper to buy it in dubai and come back. I think return tickets are available for less than 10k.

Hmm, so guess I'll have do some more searching around.

Thanks for all the quick responses NetFreak. If you come across good AVRs in 25-30K PM me.

You are right Netfreak. I was referring to older avrs that didnt support hdmi where you had to send analog out. But thats irrelvant to the OP looking for current gen of avrs.

There are a couple of AVR in 7 - 10k range in Sale by Owner section.

That can be a good way of getting started with your system. That would free up more $$$ for speakers as well.

Do you mean YHT-693 has in-built Blu-ray player?

or

Is your price quoted for an offer consisting YHT-693 and a blu-ray player?

This link of YHT-693 does not indicate any in-built blu-ray player

Can Anyone updtae me the current price of Yamaha RXV667 AVR,

1.Does it have Analog upscaling to HDMI?
2.Does it have standby pass through?
3.Is it really good? [analog to hdmi]
4.Is it really worth the money or other good VFM alternatives without loosing the features the kind avail in Yamaha rxv667?
5.From where can i purchase yamaha products with b/w?

hi jeyraj
pls check this link too ..

and check the features section and pls write back soon

best wishes...

I checked this link morning too, when I was browsing ebay GEB. It does not have any blu-ray player built-in. It is just 3D Blu-ray ready(means you have to buy a blu-ray player). But its a good model with sub-woofer pre-out, HDMI 1.4 3D ready and audio return,DTS-HDMA,Dolby True HD and all.

IMO, this seems to be bit costly, if you compare with Onkyo HT-S3300(less than 25K with bill and warranty). You need to buy a good reliable step down transformer, which will add to your cost.

If you are open for other options, just check Alfa at Irla, Mumbai. They have Pioneer VSX-520 for Rs. 15500(without warranty) which is feature wise similar to Yamaha RX-V467, except pioneer does not come with ipod-dock. Both cannot upscale video.

If you buy in this route there is also no need to buy step down transformer.

Today RX-V367 was also available at Alfa for Rs.17500. It does not support Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HDMA. Better exclude from your choice.

If you decide to go with ebay GEB route, also consider YHT-893 from same seller for Rs.8000 more than YHT-693. YHT-893 comes with RX-V567 and it is 7.1

Here is the link for YHT-893. Also you can look for Onky HT-S5300 around this price range(YHT-893 in ebay GEB)

I visited Alfa today and there is no RX-V467. Toda only 367 was available for 17500.

From your another post I came to know you have already bought RX-V467. Congrats on your AVR and speakers purchase
