AVR and Tower Speakers

Hi,

I am planning to buy an AVR and a pair of tower speakers. I listen to Indian Classical Music ( Vocal & Instrumental ), Ghazals and also film music.

Can someone advise me on the pros and cons of the Jamo s606 and the Dali Zensor 5 ? The AVR I have in mind is the Denon 1912.

I happen to listen to jamo c 405 with marantz CD5004 and amp 5004 .Hotel california sounded so good on it. Heard it in cinebels,gurgaon

For movies you can get pioneer speaker pack for 50k + add the AVR of your choice.

+1 to that............you should really go for it, if you are serious about music. If you also want a 5.1 system for movies, then go for a Marantz receiver, better for music.

I was going to say the same thing. I have always been a music guy, but did not know the difference in ARV and stereo AMP, thinking its all same, 7 months back I bought a denon 1912 AVR , not satisfied, then changed it to Harmar Kardan ARV 460, better than Denon, but still not good, sounds harsh and fatiguing. Then after reading lots in Internet I understood a similarly priced Stereo AMP will be lot better than AVR, then sold my HK and bought myself a stereo AMP and now finally I have what I was after.

I had the same requirment ( both music and movie setup was required and space was a constraint) setteled for marantz 5006 with Monitor audio RX 6.
marantz is better than denon or onkyo for music(earlier had denon 1911 and onkyo ). cannot comment on its surround capabilities but then it is secondary for me( did not even had a audition for surrounds). when I have some space I can go for stereo amp. but till then, lossless tracks on USB disk, marantz 5006 , and monitor audio is serving me well for music.

For Music an AVR is absolutely NO-NO.

What is your budget? The taste of music you have would need very high quality speakers and equally good Amp to deliver it properly. So budget is very important here.

A good AVR like marantz, a good pair of speaker for fronts, bi-amping the speakers, playing through the usb port and wav files cretaed from the original CDs, using pure direct or direct mode on AVR, is giving me better sound than what I had auditioned with stereo setup. No rule is fixed in electronics. AVR is giving me added options of watching movies, USB which plays lossless files like wav, flac , airplay for my other family members, remote control using my smartphone. Can connect sacd player if required. Manual equalizer if you have some acoustic issue or like to tweak the sound.
The key is how you setup the receiver and the quality of speaker and most importantly does that sound good for you?

I had checked jamo s606 and c405/407. In its price range it is a very good 3way speaker . Infact my friend purchased that after audition. The c series was more musical than s series. But s606 is overall a good option for both music and movie.

+1 to that. Even i have a Marantz Receiver SR5200 connected to Diamond 9.2 with a Stereo power amplifier from Sonodyne SPA 202. The experience has been truly satisfying so farhyeah: I have felt the same what you have explained above.

I think the heart of any Hi-fi setup is the DAC. Be it on the CD Player or on the Receiver. It can either make (or) break the sound.

When a receiver like Marantz is used, it serves as a a double purpose. Both for very good music listening & a good Movie watching experience.
