I am looking for a pre / pro or to use a AVR to drive my power amp Emotiva XPA-5.

I have settled on the integra to do the job. however I need to under better how the amp or pre/pro will be able to effective provide the correct inputs to the power amp.

I have read that the Emotiva is designed around a minimum of 1 volt as an input to effectively drive the power amp

Questions :

The difference between Integra rated outputs and maximum outputs.

How does this compare with other manufactures data of single value
outputs (Rated outputs)

Which value should I consider then looking at the integra data to see
if the output is adequate.

Would the DTR - 30.3 of 2 V/2.2 k? make a difference compared to the
DTR - 40.3 of 4.6 V/ 470 ? and how is this comparable to the DHC - 80.3
of 5.5 V/470 ohms (Pre out) and XLR 11.0 V/470 ohms (Pre out).

Integra -DTR - 30.3

Input Sensitivity and Impedance (Unbalance)
200 mV/47 k? (LINE)
Rated RCA Output Level and Impedance
200 mV/2.2 k? (REC OUT)
Maximum RCA Output Level and Impedance
2 V/2.2 k? (REC OUT)

Integra - DTR - 40.3

Input Sensitivity and Impedance
200 mV/47 k-? (Line)
2.5 mV/47 k-? (Phono MM)
Rated RCA Output Level and Impedance
200 mV/470 ? (Pre out)
Maximum RCA Output Level and Impedance
4.6 V/470 ? (Pre out)

Integra - DHC -40.2

Input Sensitivity and Impedance (Unbalance)
200 mV/47 k-ohms (Line)
2.5 mV/47 k-ohms (Phono MM)
Output Level and Impedance
4.6V / 470 ohms (Pre Out)

Integra - DHC -80.3

Input Sensitivity and Impedance
200 mV/47 k-ohms (Line)
2.5 mV/47 k-ohms (Phono MM)
Rated RCA Output Level and Impedance
1.0 V/470 ohms (Pre out)
Maximum RCA Output Level and Impedance
5.5 V/470 ohms (Pre out)
Rated XLR Output Level and Impedance
2.0 V/470 ohms (Pre out)
Maximum XLR Output Level and Impedance
11.0 V/470 ohms (Pre out)

Denon - 3312

Input sensitivity/Input impedance
200 mV/47 k?
Rated output:
1.2 V

Yamaha - RX A 1010

Pre out
1 \V / 1.2 K?

Thank you for your valued inputs.

Best Regards
Jerome

The XPA-5 has an input sensitivity of 1.25 volts. So what you have to look for is a pre that output more than that. Though it is not mentioned, I am guessing the XPA-5 will start clipping beyond 9 volts.

So take a look at the output of the pre's that you have listed.

(1) Integra -DTR - 30.3

Maximum RCA Output Level and Impedance
2 V/2.2 kO (REC OUT)

(2) Integra - DTR - 40.3

Maximum RCA Output Level and Impedance
4.6 V/470 O (Pre out)

(3) Integra - DHC -40.2

Output Level and Impedance
4.6V / 470 ohms (Pre Out)

(4) Integra - DHC -80.3

Maximum RCA Output Level and Impedance
5.5 V/470 ohms (Pre out)
Rated XLR Output Level and Impedance
2.0 V/470 ohms (Pre out)
Maximum XLR Output Level and Impedance
11.0 V/470 ohms (Pre out)

(5) Denon - 3312

Rated output:
1.2 V

(6) Yamaha - RX A 1010

Pre out
1 V / 1.2 KO

Both the Denon and Yamaha are out. I would even skip the 30.2 as it is more a REC out specs rather than a pre-out. Choose between the 40.3, 40.2 and 80.3.

The higher the impedance, the less energy your amp will need to amplify. Don't worry much about that as the XPA-5 can go upto 33Kohms.

Venkat does this same logic apply to my 2 channel setup?
Presently using a Beresford Caiman dac in pre-amplifier mode connected to drectly to Emotiva upa-2 power amplifier, i plan to buy a Emotiva usp-1 dedicated preamplifier and run the dac via the fixed outputs to the pre-amp, would this give me better sound quality ?

There is no doubt that the pre-amp+power amp will sound far better unless the DAC has enough juice. In most cases, they do not.

Cheers
