I am back to INDIA after close to 6 years i luv music and i am planning to buy a little expensive system which i have configured

its a

Klipsch | RS-42 surround sound

Klipsch | RB-51 II

Klipsch | RC-62 II Black | 2-Way

lot of people are discouraging me saying that it will not be a good idea because of the voltage difference and custom duty do you think its a good idea to bring it back to india, please advise

If you are using TR facilities and planning a sea container - typically duty will not be too much provided you have used the equipment in the US. It is best to have reciepts to show when the equipment was purchased. In my case i was assessed 10% duty - but I had a ton of stuff. Even that was waived after I got my shipping company to negotiate an overall amount for a 40' container. Regardless try to buy 220v electronics - almost all US mfrs. have 220v models for international market - but whether they will sell to you in the US is debatable, and will do so unless they have a dealer in India. Also try to buy the maximum you can afford - as IMO it is pointless to buy mid-fi in US as most of them are available in India without too much of a mark up. Only in high end there is at-least 70-100% mark up in India.
Good luck
Cheers

Hello everyone! I joined this forum a few days back after a Google search "india home theater" led me here.

I'm in a similar situation; R2I-ing after 19yrs in the USofA and my stuff shipped yesterday!! I should be completing all my commitments in the US in a few weeks and will fly back then.

I did some basic research on the home theater options and decided to buy a HTiB in India itself- primarily to avoid dealing with customs, voltage and warranties.

I have been reading the postings on this forum and one thing that does not seem to be mentioned in the HTiB threads is if the rear speakers are wireless/wireless-ready. I have kids who are at that "I-can-break-anything-that-I-See" age and with their grandparents around, seem to have a cloak of invincibility. :)

So I am basically looking for:
- Basic 5.1 HTiB w/ wireless speakers
- The AVR needs to support at least 3 HDMI 1.3 inputs

Pretty flexible on everything else. Any suggestions/recommendations is much appreciated. Thanks,

- Basic 5.1 HTiB w/ wireless speakers

There are no wireless speakers available in India other than a brand called Violet. Please read http://www.hifivision.com/reviews/14798-violet-speakers-true-wireless-ht-system-review.html for a detailed review.

If you can pick up a wireless speaker system from the US and bring it back, that may be a better option. There are a number of companies that are just entering the wireless market. One company I have respect for is Aperion Audio, though I have no idea of their wireless system.

The AVR needs to support at least 3 HDMI 1.3 inputs

Nearly all AVRs, other than the entry level ones, provide 4 HDMI ins.

To both Lineker and Pani - there are a number of items that you can pick up from the US that would make more sense than buying speakers and an AVR. Some of the items that come immediately to mind are Logitech Squeezebox, Oppo Blu-Ray player, Dune HD Max, Wireless Routers/Switches, Cables, etc. You should make a list of what sources and A/V networking you would like to have for the next 3 or 4 years and plan for that.

Cheers

Thanks for your response venkatcr. I did read the reviews on the Violet3D on this forum and it was not a flattering one. If I was going to spend 60+K on a HTiB I would rather spend more and get a individual pieces of a HT and a more custom setup. But with young kids I would rather get a basic HTiB now and a more elaborate setup a few years down the road.

I already have a 47" LED TV, PS3 (which will double as my BR player) and a couple of media players (Dune HD, Viewsonic VMP75) being shipped. I also have the necessary network and computing hardware to stream media from a central server in my residence. The residence is wired for ethernet. So I have done my basics. :)

On the AVR, I needed 2 HDMI inputs for the PS3 and Dune and a third for basically whatever cable/dish provider my wife decides on. An AVR with 4 HDMI inputs would be a plus. I guess from your response, an wireless speaker setup is out and I have no option but to cable the residence for audio too.
