I used 19mm ply which was marked as Gurjan. I enquired with 2-3 people knowledgable in this and all told that that was the best ply. 8' X 4' sheet cost me 1200 rs. Consider my open baffle as narrow box without one surface. The baffle on which speaker is mounted has nothing facing it. The top and bottom plate face each other. The top plate is slanting forward so that top and bottom plate are non parallel. Then the two wings are also at an obtuse angle to the front baffle so that the two wings are not parallel to each other. This was done to avoid issue of standing waves (if at all it arises).

I listened to few of my favourite songs yesterday. 'Play me' by Neil Diamond, 'How do I live without you' & 'But I do love you' by Le Ann Rimes. Superb experience. I almost always get goose bumps when I listen to these.

Sorry for the delayed response. I do think the soundscapes have open baffle for their mids. But they can be stuffed and sealed. It is kind of debatable topic. Even Dennis Murphy is confused about it. Check this link "http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=93002.0"

I recently played some music on my Ventronics bookshelves after a gap of more than 3 months (had packed them in boxes due to shortage of space). I used to love them very much and they are very much comparable to Wharfdale diamond 10.2. However, now when I listen to them, I do not like them that much
. I find them to have a boomy/sickening bass and suppressed mids when compared to my open baffles. The source was same (Marantz DVD player) and the amp is marantz pm6002.
Now I understand even more why bass on open baffles is called as 'natural'. The bass is right there but doesn't keep on shouting "I am here, I am here". Everything is integrated as "music"! So the Ventronics are now used only to watch movies.

Even I feel the same .If you are used to OB sound then you may not appreciate box sound.
In the recent past, I have auditioned few box speakers to upgrade but thinking to pick yet another OB " Emerald Physics CS 2.7 ".

Very expensive.I think, Emerald Physics CS2.7 is around 5 Lacs.
My current speaker Emerald Physics CS3 is retailing around 2.5L.
I am not very sure because of current $ value.
And I haven't heard any of them. Is it possible to stay in say Rajiv/Shanti/Coaltrain/Santhosh's house for 2 days to spend 18 + 18 hours listening to other's favourite songs? I am just saying......
I have just returned from Munich. I kept memory of the Martin Logan's ES speaker - Accuphase amplifier and RP6 TT-and some Jazz songs. returning home yesterday morning, I immediately set my OB again and played some of my favourite sounds, songs.
The beauty of OB is, for a small investment you get the open sound impression. I am not over exaggerating, the costly combination beats my system in every section of sound quality but not much. It could not play better imaging than mine, it outplay in music coherence by some. OB has a open, spatial sound imaging that surprises me everytime. So, a simple OB will not be far away unless you see decimal figures with a magnifying glass as big as a football ground. The more accuracy you want from a music system, the more you pay. Getting 70% quality WRT to the top end is half costly than getting 85% WRT to the top end. Mind you, figures here are just to give you a frame for composition, not to sign a chaque. They are just my figures for my Composition too.
Active speaker system in this OB gave me another edge over cost per performance. I think Dr. Jaudere's idea of using equaliser is a simpler way to control your sound system in your environment (inside and outside of the music system).
What I mean to say is OB is the cheapest, simplest way to get the best out of your money and time investment.

By all means do clone them. They are wonderful speakers.
OT - But Can't Fight the Moonlight by LeAnn Rimes is another awesome track.
LeAnn Rimes - The Best Of is highly recommended... a repertoire of all her major hits and with her awesome vocal range!

They need a lot of empty space all around them to perform their best. Sadly most people do not have the space to do them justice

I have just measured my listening room. It is 12' X 14', my speakers are placed on the longer side facing the shorter side. I think most of us have somewhay similar size room. I placed speakers back to wall when I do not hear them. They take less space this way. they are light weight because of the single baffle construction.
I think we allmost all can use OB.
I have almost 3 feet space from the centres of the speakers to the side walls when I listen. I seat roughly 8' away frm the speakers. I am happy this way. I feel others will be too.

Yes. That album is one of my favourite. I like her cover versions like Unchanted melody as well. @Sumanta, good to see you back on HFV. The EQs have been a great addition indeed.

Sorry, I am quite happy with Ahuja products for what they are and are available for. I will make all my speakers with only Ahuja drivers. This is a comfortable, economic and quality brand for me. Works well with my low power tube amp, my home, my sounds and songs, my family's ears and mines. Anything that I still want is a TT and some LPs someday. I think TT works well with tube amps and OBs. All drivers that I have come accross in India (including your one) are quite close or below 91 dB SPL. Too low for me and my system.
Thanks for your offer...you may try making a simple OB with those tweeters and some Peerless woofers. It will cost another 5K max for you.
