Ok I am not sure if anyone else has noticed this but Flipkart has started selling projectors :yahoo:... This is a major plus for smaller town buyers whose can now buy projectors online & have them delivered ... Although a lot of the pricing is a bit disappointing like the Epson TW3600 priced at 98k(should have been less than 90k) there are a few deals to be had... I imagine with time the price will get better as more & more online stores start stocking projectors...

One of the projectors that caught my eye was a WXGA(1280x800) projector BenQ MW516 priced at 40k with 2yr warranty... This seems like a decent high Lumen(2800Lms) projector at a very good price...Also this projector has higher bulb life rating than normal... On Amazon it is priced close to $600 so 40k seems like a steal to me... Although there are not many reviews on the net for this projector(except a couple of one liners on Amazon saying this is a fantastic projector & 5 stars) I did manage to find a couple of youtube videos which showed its quality & they seem pretty decent to me...

This can be a decent option to the HD66 if u are looking for a local 2yr warranty projector...
I hope we start seeing more & more projector deals online now that Flipkart has jumped into this line:clapping:...

Does anyone in this forum have this projector or planning to buy? Eagerly waiting to see some reviews. There is very limited information in the net.

This is available for Rs.36999 in Buytheprice, also have a 5% discount for ICICI bank cards (ie. Rs.35149).

Would this be a good pick for home cinema? Also would like know if considering a 1080p for about double the price is really worth or not.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks George. One of my friends told 720p is more than enough for home use, also considering the huge price difference. He is having a Sony 720p. Havent had chance to see a demo yet. The cheapest 1080p model I found was benq W1060 which is selling in Buytheprice at 70K. One of the bangalore dealers quoted 89K for this model. I was having a budget of 40K, that is the reason sticking to 720p and looking at the cheaper ones in the next segment.
Appreciate valuable suggestions.

Bottom line is the budget. You can opt for increasing the budget, but that may take time,so if that is an issue then like many things in life, just accept the compromise. IMHO 720 may take you a good part of the way to HD, and then you can upgrade when you are ready.

I have a 8 feet (diagonal) 4:3 screen. Do I need 1080p or 720p projector be good enough for blu ray projection.

Will I be able to see hugh difference between 720 and 1080 ?

Dude, Home entertaining projectors are for home use only...I strongly suggest you to wait for some more time till you money adjust and go for 1080P.

Thing is in case of LCD your viewing position would be 8 feet away from the screen and it is 40". You can view any type of video in LCD even 480p video looks fine from here. But imagine you have 120" of screen and your projector is not giving 1080p, You will observe each and every detail in such a big screen.

You have LCD which is 1080p. You are going for projector because you want better picture and also you are a video lover. There is no point of taking 720p one. This is my opinion...:)

Hi Rajadeep,

Did you get your BenqMW516 projector ? How does it handle movies ? Any intense rainbows etc ??

Thanks

Hmm actually I did not say anything in my post to suggest that I wanted to buy this projector... I just mentioned that it was a decent deal... A few months back , I bought the Epson 8500UB from the US for 72k( including customs)... It's a 1080p projector which was Epson's top model for 2010... Extremely happy with the projector... I will post some other 720p options for u to try in the under 50k range later tonight...
