What are the best speakers to get from USA?

I have the Denon 2112CI.

75% music/25% movies.

15*12 room but will move in an year or so.

There are literally hundreds of options. But the best first step is to define a budget.
You can get setups that start at 35k to 75k (and much more). Where do you want to start?

I think you can surely buy Def tech pro cinema 1000 / 1100 in that budget. The best bang for the buck from a satellite - sub system.

Regards,

Amit

There's a whole raft of choices for you to select from at that price point, only thing is you need to ideally do some auditioning. Is weight an issue?

nope, not an issue. I am no audiophile, I am looking for something which I can run for longer hours and still warm. I auditioned the Klipsch but after 15 minutes I couldn't bare them. Polk were little better than Klipsch. Other than that I haven't tried any other brands enough to describe how they sound.

Coming to floor standers, can I put FS with front port up against the wall or all floor standers need to be placed at a distance from the walls? Its not a big factor, just want to know.

Personally I prefer some distance from both rear and side walls. I am a diy person, so I wouldnt know how to shortlist brand name speakers, but looking at the better regarded ones, names like Energy, Paradigm and others are what people talk about. Electrostatics have a difference sound, Cadence from Poona is a good brand that I have heard and liked.

Take a look at Aperion Audio and Axiom. These are Internet only speaker brands that have a huge reputation. Unfortunately you cannot audition them. Alternatively audition the speakers that are available in India, and pick them up from where you want.

Cheers

I am in USA. Let me check if I can audition any of those.

Where are you at in the US? Look up Crutchfield.com. They should be able to deliver anywhere over there. They've got all the major brands and have a lot of research material available on their website.

I am in Salt Lake city, not a big city I could find only a few brands here to audition. I came acorss crutchfield.com, will browse the site more.

Meanwhile, I observed that prices are very competitive in India compared to USA, so let me ask you this, does it make sense to get speakers from USA? If it does makes sense which brands are better value?

^ Good call on the Aperion. Also look at Ascends. Axiom - many people find it bright, but it's all personal of course. Polk, Energy, Infinicy, Paradigm are good options as well. Most have their 'signature' sound. You will have to listen to a few to say which ones you prefer.

My personal preference would be Ascend (use CMT-340 SE with stands) - Aperion - Polk in that order.

you are second person who recommended Ascends to me. so, I have to ask, aren't there any comparable FS, I want FS and should look cool.

EDIT: We kind of like the aperions, though.

Ascend makes towers too, but they are more money of course. Actually if you relax the money side, I will recommend Salk Sound - SalkSound home page . Check out their forum - Salk Signature Sound. There is also a used speaker sales section on this page (or on Audiogon) at the top if you don't mind used. You can request on the forum to see if there is someone in your area who can offer an audition, or contact Jim Salk directly.

Salks have excellent sound (I liked it much better than similar and higher priced B&Ws and several others) and you can get custom finishes if you want to pay for it. Maybe consider better quality fronts and center, and get cheaper surrounds (that is how I have my setup).

Sarge,
The one problem I find about the aperions is most of their medium to high end are 6ohms and I already have Denon 2112CI, with which I think 8Ohms pair better.

How much of budget increase are we talking about? Suggest me a salk package and let me see.

Another requirement would be, actually I am planning for a 7.2 sytem, so that you know I have the flexibilty to use that as 2.1(for music) and 5.1, otherwise 7.2 if I build a pure HT in my new home in future.

Look at the SongTowers + SongCenter. Pricing should be on the website. However, these are 4 - 6 ohm speakers, so may not go well with your Denon either if it only takes upto 8 ohms. Surrounds - pick whatever of cheap Polk/Infinity/Energy etc you find in your budget. Newegg and Frys have several good deals on Polks.

Whichever speakers you choose, I would select the speaker first and then amp/receiver based on that rather than the other way around. Selling the Denon and getting another receiver that is 4 ohms friendly is an option. Onkyos seem to do ok with 4 ohms.

Exactly, my thoughts, selling the Denon and get a better one. Actually I bought it as it was cheap and never thought about the speaker support.

I assume you are Indian in the USA, which part of India are you from? How does the Indian songs sound on your setup? What is your source for the Indian music? I mean do you buy music discs or play ripped mp3's? How much one appreciate playing mp3(120KPBS) on speakers like SALK compared to average quality speakers like polks or KEF's?

Too many questions I suppose, but I appreciate your help. Will look into the SALK you suggested. Thank you.
