As many of you might have seen that on TV a new advertisement has come up which says that from July 1 that total digitalization of cable will take place and this is according to the latest bill that has been passed in 2011. What are your views about it?

ITs for the good.
Digital broadcast is superior to analog in ALL respect.

Of course in a hi-fi forum we will definitely have ppl who still favor Black & White NTSC transmission - because of its "graininess and warmth" and find harshness in "blocky-ness" of digital signal irritating.

I wonder what will happen to the analog UHF / VHF bands?
Or the DTV signals will ride over this UHF/VHF band?

govt cannot keep a check on cable operators ..so a few DTH operators is a better option ...more revenue for the govt ...however the change will take time ...cable operators may come together and start offering DTH

I dont understand what will the cable operators do once this law is applied.

It changes nothing for cable operators.

Same cable that used to carry analogue signals will free up space/spectrum for digital channels.

With that, Cable would be able to offer HD channels.

What I meant was that as after the act only DTH operators will be in the market then cable operators will become jobless.

That should not happen, Cable operators would still be around to provide "last mile" connectivity.

For example, I get digital cable from Hathway. Hathway manages channels etc, but Cablewalla provides cable to actual homes. On top of that Cable, Hathway provides digital channels and set top box.

Yes, I believe its just Hathway which provide facility of both the cable as well as DTH.
