Blu-ray player - LG BD550 or Samsung BD-C5500

I'm confused between buying LG BD550 or Samsung C5500. As per cost LG is quoted around 7K while Samsung is being quoted around 10K.(The stock has still not arrived and is expected around New Year) Can anyone please let me know which would be a better BD player. I have the Onkyo 3300AVR and would like to know if there would any issue connecting either of the players. The Onkyo sales guy is discouraging me from buying the LG BD player and instead favouring the Samsung BD player. The Onkyo guy says that the LG lens wouldn't last for a long time and would be better to invest a little more and buy Samsung or Sony.

It would be helpful if someone could let me know which player to go for. Though there is a price difference between both the players I would like to have a player which would sync very well with the Onkyo 3300 AVR

I think for most panasonic models there are mod kits available. Not sure about samsung and lg thou.

Samsung better than LG model.

Not sure what the real feature differences are but do check out the Sony 370.

Thanks for the info. Is it safe to buy from Shopyourworld.com? I have bought from ebay global easybuy and couple of times got my money refunded as the product was not delivered.

May be the stocks ran out or price change so you got refunded. You can try in grey market if you are not worried about warranty.. Anyways there is no global warranty unless you purchase international warranty along with product.

I tried out LG BD550 at a store yesterday and hooked my USB External HDD (1.5TB) to it and it played mkv / m2ts files without any issues...!!

That said, am still not going for it (Rs 7300) and rather picking up a Media Server under Rs 4000

Sigh I've said this so often on these forums. The LG BD550 does NOT PLAY most branded DVD's from India [region code problem]. For Blu-rays it will play only region C.

Of course connect a USB and it will play most formats - though not tested for 1080 content.

The BD83 is not available any more. Oppo is only selling the BD93 and the BD95. Since Oppo is an Internet based company, the best place to buy Oppo will be from OPPO Digital - Universal Network 3D Blu-ray Players - Buy Direct from the Manufacturer.

Amazon is also listing the product, but most seem to be used ones.

It plays all DVD's (Branded one from India). Yes, for Blu-ray it only plays region C. Already modded LG BD550 multizone region code free (for both dvd and blu ray) is being sold on Amazon for around $300. I am not sure if there is any modding through remote is availabe for bd550 as the sherwood BD player.

I believe Samsung C5500 can be made region free through remote. Check this forum and google to get the combination.

You can check "Pioneer BDP 330 Region Free Blu Ray Player". I am using this player since last couple of months and the experience is simply amazing. Put any disc and it plays it. It costs around $300 in USA. You can check the specifications on below link:
