Esteemed members,
Where can I buy a decent bnc terminated 75 ohm dig. cable? Budget under 5k.
Cheers,
Sid

I am looking for options available with Indian dealers. I have one option from a Bangalore dealer, the listening room. Any others? I am also considering getting a mx RCA to bnc adapter for rs. 75 and using one of the 3 or 4 RCA cables i have. Not sure where to find the adapter in hyd., though I can get one from Chennai.
Cheers,
Sid

I believe Audioquest used to have BNC cables...but BNC by default is not a standard termination especially these days. you may be better off getting it done custom.

Thanks Arj. That seems to be an issue. Wonder why manufacturers provide this connection and not an RCA option? I need this for the m2 tech clock to connect to my m2 tech evo converter. These are not pro units, so I wonder why they did not simply use RCA. Now I have to shell out another 5k for a cable, regardless of the number of RCA coax's that I have lying around. What a PITA:mad:
Cheers,
Sid

Somewhat less than 5K Perhaps?

I've never moved into the heady world of word-clock sync precision, but a couple of my brain cells say that this type of connector is what they would expect for such a thing. My brain cells are sometimes right, sometimes wrong --- but they have browsed quite a lot of digital gear on the net.

They also tell me that they have read that RCA digital connectors, common though they are, are not really up-to-spec.

Thanks for the link Thad. Great prices, but unfortunately shipping to India is a flat 50 euro:sad:. So a 10 Euro cable is now 60 euro shipped even before our Customs get their grubby hands on the package. So all said and done will not end up much below 5k. Anyways I have a DH audio cable that can be mine for about 5k. I have decided to go for that.
Cheers.
Sid

Can you not purchase good quality BNC plugs from neutrik or MX and replace the RCA plugs of any of the cables available with you?

I hate it when that happens!

Surely one of these companies will post a small item for the cost of the postage? Obviously google will know them all, but the one I used to know in London was Studiospares.

I think those connectors have to be crimped? Probably end up spending even more on the tool. A local cable-TV boy might be able to help.

Am examining that option Capt. Looking to replace the RCA's on my nordost moonglo2 with bnc plugs. But it appears to be too much trouble, locating the plugs, getting them soldered/crimped etc so might just opt. for the dh labs d75.

I believe for clock signals, being in the MHz range, any specialist digital cable should be ok.i did read somewhere about using the same cable for the clock as you would for the SPDIF although cant think of a reason/logic as to why they should be so.

Or else you could use This "audiophile" tweak Clock with no cables ;)

One user who has done extensive comparison on bnc cables has reported that he found miniscule difference between $500 branded ones and $5 generic cables. If only I could find some generic BNC cables in our Great Nation:sad: without having to import this simple item.
Cheers,
Sid

I have used the DH labs 110 (balanced) and find it a good reliable cable even as digital.
I bought it from Singapore (DH Labs | Effective Audio Mod) they ship using regular post and prices are sensible...was not charged any duty !

From this video, it appears like a video cable.

Catch hold of your local cable TV operator or better the maintenance boy. He would be happy to provide you with a small patch cable with BNC connectors on both sides for 100 bucks.

Thanks everybody. I have decided to go ahead with the dh labs d75 cable simply because the m2tech dealer carries it and is providing a decent discount bundling it with my purchase of the clock and power supply. Little extra cost for less trouble. So I am going for it.
Cheers,
Sid

DH Labs 75 a very nice cable. Had it for many years as a word clock cable. Extremely balanced presentation

BNC connectors are designed to be used with RG-58U cables.

Cablewalla uses RG-6 cables with appropriate sized F type connector (threaded) in the main line from his network to your building. In-building distribution uses a much thinner (and lossier) RG-11 cables. Most RG-6 and RG-11 cables are jelly filled, have fairly thin braided shielding and cheap foil shielding. Neither type is suitable for the clocking application that sidvee needs.

One easy solution is to buy two BNC (male) to RCA (female) adaptor, provided you can spare one unbalanced interconnect. MX makes very good adapters.

If you're in the mood for DIY, please get one meter of RG-58U double-shielded coaxial cable from MX, two glod-plated BNC connectors from MX, and get someone experienced to solder it for you. Never ever use the cheap BNC coonector whose (core) signal cable is screwed down and the shield is crimped, and the barrel is cheap plastic.
