Bob Dylan Wants You To Embrace Mono

Keep it up Rajiv.Perhaps we can have one unified thread where everyone posts interesting and original links!Tight moderation.Only the best should see the light of the day.
I have an anthology of Mahalia Jackson, where many of the tracks are listed as Mono. The first time I put it on on my stereo,I expected them to sound, average at best. But they sound great!I am not very proficient on technicals.Could you/anyone else fill me in on mono recordings on cd/vinyl and what happens to them when we play them on a two channel.
The basic idea behind the 'mono ad' seems to be that splitting the music for stereo requires mixing the sound and is a step down as far as SQ is concerned.By the same token 2 channel is better than 7.1 and speakers with a full range driver better than one with 3-4 drivers and crossovers???

Hi,
I am new to this Forum. But there is nothing to beat mono recordings of Jim Reeves 'up through the years' on RCA US pressing. I do have more than two hundred mono records I play them on MONO cartridge and mon preamp. T soundstage is more focussed

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
