Dear Hififriends,

I wish to buy an amplifier from Norge audio and have zeroed on 1000 gold. Please suggest me suitable bookshelf speakers. I would like use them primarily for listening music, but intend to use it occasionally for watching movies on TV.

I might visit USA during first week of april. Is it suggestible to procure speakers from there? Thanks in advance for the advises.

Hi

Norge Amp typically outputs power 80 +80 at 8 ohms and hence you need to ensure that you get matching speakers like Norge Ultimo or Cambridge Audio SX 50s or SX 60s or Boston Acoustic Bookshelf A26. There are a number of Bookshelf speakers available and you need to ensure that maximum frequencies (if not all) is delivered by the speakers (20hz - 20khz)

Hope this helps....there are tons of reviews and videos available for you to see and take a good decision..where ever you get a chance...audition whatever you can...

Like someone already suggested, Norge's own Millennium speakers are known to be a good match. The wharfedales bookshelves (9.1, 9.2, 10.1, 10.2) are also known to match well with Norge amplifiers.

If you buy from abroad, please keep in mind that you will not get warranty on the product in India since most warranties are local only.

Best,
APK.

What is your budget ?

The Wharfdales 9.x are no longer in production/ sale are they?

9.x has been replaced with 10.x more than a year back.... there is avery less chance that you might come across a new piece (old stock) with any of the dealers...

There is another thread for Pioneer sp-fs52. They appear to be one of the best budget speakers ever made in recent years. You can buy them in usa and bring them along with you. Dont forget blue jeans lc-1 interconnects and speaker cables as well.

You are correct that the 9.x series is no longer in production - they have been replaced by the 10.x series.

However, if you look around, you may be able to get some NOS (New Old stock) from some dealers. Or better still, if you are open to buying used, there may be some good used speakers up for grabs.

Having heard both the 9.x series and the 10.x series, I personally prefer the 9.x series. They sounded more musical to me. The 9.1 (though a bit low on bass) was one of the most VFM bookspeakers that I had heard. Hence my recommendation to also look at the 9.x series - though you may find it difficult to get new ones.

sorry hififreinds. was busy and could not check for the replies.

really happy too see help pouring from all corners.

Thanks one and all for the advises.

@elangoas, I wish to spend around 20K for the speakers. I can extend it by max 5k.

@apk. Thanks. I will stick to local purchase.

@gobble. I too got enthused over pioneer's FS52. not sure whether Gold 1000 is a match for them.

Can somebody comment on paring Dali's Zensor1 or PSB's alpha with Gold 1000.

I prefer a stereo that is not too harsh.

I have a Dali Zensor7. I have auditioned the Q Acoustics 2050i, KEF, Polk Audio, Wharfedale speakers. But the Dali speakers have exceptional tonal quality. If you want very good sound, go for Dali. And you could definitely enjoy a long listen.

Following is for your reference:

You may also consider Diamond 121 BS @ hifimart for 24K... You can consider the PSB image B6 rather than Alpha as they are entry level series from PSB...

Can somebody please comment on matching Pioneer's SP-FS52 with norge's Gold 1000?

Norge Gold 1000:
Output : 125W + 125W RMS @ 4 ohms. 80W + 80W RMS @ 8 ohms
Frequency Response : 20Hz-30kHz +/- 0.5db
THD @ rated output : <0.04%
Input Sensitivity : 500mv

SP-FS52:
Frequency Range: 40 Hz-20k Hz
Nominal Impedance :6 Ohms
Sensitivity: (2.83V): 87 dB
Maximum Input Power: 130 W
Cross-Over Frequency: 250 Hz & 3 kHz

I have Norge Ultimo with Gold 1000 amp. If your room is on the smaller side (like mine), gold 1000 itself may be an overkill. I have never gone above 10 o clock position.

However, sound quality is fantastic.

As an alternative, you should definitely check out used speakers - quite a few FS and BS options available on hifivision/ olx/ quikr

Raam,
What's your room size?
I'd also suggest take a look at the Polk LSi9 in the for sale thread by FM Heliumfight.
They are currently at my place (I am just storing them for him).
Given there specs, they do need some power to push them.
I have heard them in my room and are a fantastic pair of speakers. Though no longer in production they are very well built.
BTW the sale also includes stands. Do check them on web for info.
Regards,

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
