I'm looking for a pair of Bookshelves and an receiver for a friend.
What are good bookshelves to look at around 30 - 40K available in the market today?

Usage will initially be music only and later on slowly expand to HT. So the matching center should be reliable and good.

What all brands do you have access to?

Hi, Last what I heard about 6 months back the B & W 685 they were around 60K plus in Chennai.

Check out Dali Zensor 1 - 21K. Dali Zensor 3 - 29K and Dali Zensor 5 - floor Standers around 49K. The Dali Z3 make very good rears once you upgrade to HT.

Do not rule out the Klipsch RP160M.

Price of Dali Vokal, any idea and where we can have demo for klipsch in chennai

I have recently auditioned MA Bronze (~30K), Dali Z3 (~30K), KEF Q300 (~40K) and went with KEF. My suggestion will be to select three or four speakers for a quick audition and decide. It is better to carry your own song collection (I created a CD from my FLAC collection) and the Amp with you for audition.

For Klipsch please go to Cinebels. (Greams road and College road junction).

Though I have not heard them, the Wharfedale Diamond 220 (around 23K) seems to have great reviews and awards (On the mart).

From what I remember the KEY Q100 and IQ30 seems be better than the Q300. Plus, I have heard a few negatives on the center that comes along.

Prices are for new ones!
That wasn't for you. I got quite a few PM's for used bookshelves :)

i have heard quite good stuff on the Wharfedale at hifivision itself. They used to be recommended quite often. I havent heard them in a while now, so don't recall.

I prefer speakers that are neutral. Can listen to hours without being stressed out. I have the PSB Image and I don't remember ever being fatigued (except when there were bass issues in my room - now rectified with EQ).

So as of now on my list,
1. ELAC.
2. PSB.

I suggest you decide on the centre speakers you are buying while deciding on bookshelves. You need to match the timbre on both for a having a good quality home theatre.

Since the centre's are very important for a HT setup. Getting a good centre is more of a challenge than getting other speakers is what I feel as most brands make decent front speakers for every budget, but not all make good centre's. So I suggest you decide centre's first and then the other speakers (provided you don't plan to replace the bookshelves later)

Hi, Just a thought. The Dali Zensor 5 have quite a small footprint - in fact you can just think of them as BS on stands. they are sleek sound good too and retail for less than 50K. (The extra cost for stands??)
