I found this in another forum (in which I am a member but not a Bose fan) and thought this might interest some.

"Amar G Bose, founder owner of the iconic manufacturer of audio system Bose, has gifted majority of the companys stock to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studied and taught in the 50s and the 60s. MIT now owns the company, but not sufficiently enough to sell it, according to an announcement on Friday."

We all start this habit as a hobby with some hard-earned money spent on acquiring systems to please our ears and tastes but yes, there comes a time, even for consumers like us, to render something noble but to only those who have the same, but cannot afford, or to those whom we consider where it all started.

cheers.

Indeed a noble gesture by Bose. What better than giving back to one's Alma mater, afterall we owe some of our success to the institution(s) that we went to!
