This is completely a different way to approach the problem.

(Big disclaimer: If you are not brand savvy and have patience.. :) )
I am mentioning this here at the risk of being completely OT, but believe me this is a very viable option if taking with the right mind set. So here it goes.

BTW since you are in bangalore and I see a lot of folks there having some DIY speakers, why dont you give that a shot. Just search around in the DIY section on the forum and see if you can get help from some FM who can setup a nice basic speaker for you.

DIY is not always cheap! This is I think the biggest myth that DIY=cheap :)

If you have a decent sized room then you can also try an open baffle design. See this.. JE Labs Arkiv: Open Baffle

You can get any decent full range driver and put it in this and enjoy great music.

OR do some research around the forum and see builds around the mark alpair 7.

I would strongly suggest you please explore around this option and give it some time and at least sink in some of it if not all.

Since your query is regarding speakers so keeping it only to speakers. There can be very good options in amplification as well which can be achieved with help from very helping forum members. All we need is a little curiosity/passion and patience to get there.
(Hint: Check DIY ACA-Amp camp amp build and pass B1 build threads.)

I am just sharing these here so that later on you should not feel, I wish I knew better. So please treat this as just FYI and for your general knowledge :) If not today it will definitely help you in future. Worst case just make a note and forget, nothing to loose. :)

For interconnects do read up on words like "mogami" and "gotham".. :) they dont cost a bomb and still do the job pretty well in *most* of the setups. Might suit your requirement very well.

P.S: I am refraining from giving any specific recommendations and these are just high level pointers, you might want to dig and play around the forum to get more idea. Feel free to explore if you may like. Also posting this for benefit of others. :)

Many thanks for the guidance and suggestion. I'll keep your points carefully in my mind. I've auditions the following speakers till date (with my Norge 2060 amp) :-

- Pioneer bs22 (Andrew Jones) - I found the sound to be just ok. The bass wasn't that thick, dry and tight as I heard on my brother's wharfdale diamond 9.2

- Norge Nano, MD75 and MK III - I found Nano's to be too weak. They started distorting on slightly volumns. MK75 were just similar to Andrew Jones and for MK3, the sound was definately better but then I did not have both the budget and space to go for them. Both MK II and Ultimo were out of stock and not available for demo too.

- Warfdale Diamond 10.2 - They initially did not like them on Marantz, maybe because I was playing MP3. But these speakers were just awesome when I heard a Jagjit Singh CD on them. I mean I was just spell bound for next 10 minutes :-). The issue was only cost. 30k for this pair was way too over my budget

- Boston Acoustics A26 - I like the sound of them with both Marantz and Norge 2060. It was playing CDs really really well, maybe just a few notched below Wharfdale 10.2. It also played my MP3 from my mobile quite well. So I was quite impressed with them. Later on, negotiating with the dealers, I'm getting a good price too.

Any other would you suggest with Norge 2060 to a demo ?
 
You have to try the Dali Zensor 1s (and 3s if possible). Dali is carried by Avenue Sound/Boomerang in Borivali East and The Den in Worli
 
Hi,

I took the audition of Dali Zensor 1s today at Boomarang Borivali. I hope I'm not being blasphemous by saying but I somehow did not like the sound of them :-(. I was surprised to see them struggling a bit on a Denon receiver. When I heard my CDs (Karunesh, Prem Joshua and a few MP3s on my cellphone) on Norge 2060, they came up to life to good extent but nothing as compared the sound I heard on BA A26.

I wondering if it was set up related issues or something. Or was is that the quality of interconnect were not good one ? I found it surprising because there were so many recommendations of those speakers...

I really like when people are honest with themselves :) Bravo on putting your unbiased opinion here and if it does not sound good enough to you then maybe they arent! So it is okay if you dont like them.

Having said above there are many factors that could be playing here. some factors I know that make a difference are:

1. Room dimensions
2. Listener position and speaker placement
3. Synergy between the components (includes the ENTIRE chain) dont want to sound really fuzzy but from power supply to speaker spikes :D everything is playing with the room! It could be as simple as the ICs used (interconnects)

BTW: I like your choice of music, I too like these genres.

There are many members on the forum who did not like a particular speaker in first sitting but eventually liked them in later session on some other day and bought it! Which is an interesting fact to keep in mind.

To make life simpler and easier you can:
1. Carry a demo CD of your favorite tracks (CD/USB having them in FLAC format)

2. Carry your amp (which I think you already are doing). Best if you can carry a source as well (preferably CD quality) maybe a portable DAC borrowed form some members if not your own.

(This is interesting because a source can make a HUGE difference, usually there are forum members who have local groups that meet up every now and then and we play around with the source components and every source has a different presentation, this is in line with the component matching mentioned above)

As you see there are many factors playing in. So in my previous suggestions I have tried to suggest all components that are very neutral (the change the sound in minimum way - the pass B1, ACA -quite transparent, mogami - studio quality microphone cables).

I have learnt that keeping components as neutral as possible gives better scope for fine tuning the system.

(Another way of doing this: go the pre-owned route from a trusted FM. Audiophiles are known to take crazy care of their equipment, much to the annoyance of their family members. Do a roll call and you can see the hands count :D )

that's absolutely fine mate. Music taste differs from person to person. I read somewhere that Dali's sound not very good until 100 hrs of break in period. ? (not sure though)

People in this forum just suggest the brands in the price range. end of the day you must satisfy with your purchase. So, listen as much as u can and decide.:)

while I'm doing my research, someone told me about this brand "bandwidth". He said the wires are very good.

Is that correct ? Would you have any idea ?
 
Yep Vardesh...that's correct..it is indeed Brandrige..folks at the link provided are saying they are VFM product.

Since Rohit suggested mogami, I'll have a look at that as well.

Hi,
I have heard mogami and even bandridge can be good but I have not heard so cant recommend. I have seen many knowledgable FMs use mogami and hence the recommendation.
