Both phono amps in TT & amp ?

Hello to all, I am quite surprised that it is so hard to find a piece of information about this question: When a TT has pre amp or phono stage built in then it can be connected to an amp with phono inputs etc. But what if both , a TT and an AMP have built in phono stage ? Do one need to connect a TT just to other line in like AUX ? Or connect TT with buil in phono amp to phono input ( with built in pre amp ) on amp ? But that seems to double DB and sensivity ? Or simply the phono pre amp on TT can be then switched off ? Thanks.

Simple....

1. Just Check your Turntable first for, is it possible to switch off the inbuilt phono stage. If Yes Switch Off it and use Amp phono stage. Because most cases amp Phonos are better quality.

2. If switching off TT phono stage is not possible then simply use any line level say Aux input in the amplifier. Not the Phono input.

As far as my understanding goes, You may use either of them, but no way both together. If TT phono out is used, it can be put into AMP phono in and if TT with phono preamp is put on, you may input it directly in Aux. Principle is, in TT, its always PHONO OUT WITH/WITHOUT PREAMP and in amp, its always PHONO / AUX IN.

Its never hard to get information about TTs if you post on Hifivision. So here goes:

Yes, a TT with an inbuilt phonostage can be connected to any amplifier irrespective of whether the amp has a phono input or not. Usually TTs with inbuilt phonostages have a switch on the under side of the plinth which allows you to turn on or turn off the inbuilt phonostage. If you turn on the inbuilt phonostage of the TT, then connect your TT to your amp's aux or cd or tape input. If you turn off the inbuilt phonostage of the TT, then your TT will sing only if it is connected to the phono input on the amp (assuming you have the right kind of cartridge on the TT).

It is very unwise to turn on the inbuilt phonostage of your TT and wire it to the phono input on the amp. The resulting overload will produce highly distorted sound with significant clipping, that is it if does not blow out the front end semiconductors on your amp's phonostage. Completely avoid this approach.

It would also be possible to use an external phono stage to AUX input of your amp after switching off the preamp on your tt. But most likely a tt with a built in preamp would not do justice to an external phonostage due to quality concerns.
