Budget setup help!

Hello all!

Need help with a new setup. Music : Movies 50:50

Non variables: Denon 2113, ProFX Bipoles and a KSW12 sub. My room won't support a 7.1 setup. I would rather passive Bi amp the mains.

Room size is 15X11 ft. Room has a bed, a couple of wardrobes (?), and a computer table.

Music preference: Varied. Classic rock, hard rock, EDM, Jungle, Jazz, bit of Western Classical.

Budget is around 70k for the three fronts. L-C-R

Hi I too am in the same boat
, you can check my request thread, you did not mention your preferences like FS/BS
, volume level etc

. Many FMs suggested psb and ms to me for pure music in the 50k range

. I think you are better off buying with music in mind rather than HT
, as musical speaker do well in both scenarios
. I personally feel that you should look for bs for your room size and you have fantastic options in that range

. But I cannot suggest you any brands due to my limited experience

Thanks for replying. I'm looking for BS this time. Replacing my damaged Wharfdales.

Have auditioned PSB Image B6, Quad 11L, Kef Q300, MS Mezzo 2/Aviano 2, and Usher S520.

Not an expert here, but out of the ones I've demoed so far, my preference are wharfedale 10.2, Kef Q300 and MS aviano 2 (in that order) for bookshelves. FS might be too much for your room size. But these are all budget options which will cost under 50k including the Center. Have heard good stuff about usher bookshelves too. Audition is the only way to find out what you'd prefer. Other brands you can look at are quad, PSB and paradigm.

Paradigm and B&W 685s are on my audition list. Not keen on the Wharfs because I burnt my fingers once.

FS I auditioned DALI Zensor 5, MS Aviano 6, Tannoy Mercury V4 and Usher V 603. The Zensor 5 sounded pretty lame. MS signature I am familiar with (have an Avant setup as well). Tannoys were good but nothing above and over my existing kit. The Usher FS I think is priced stupidly. Double the price of a 601. Not worth it I think.

@ Flash - The Epic 5 is on my "to do" list. Unfortunately, cant find it anywhere. Did audition the M12i with a CA 551R. Seemed a tad bright?

Take your AVR the next time you go to audition speakers.This is the only way you will get a picture of what sound signature you can expect at home.
IMO its pointless auditioning speakers with amps that you don't own or don't intend to buy.

On the other hand, I believe if we hear a pair of speakers with the best possible amp paired with it, that helps to understand the potential of the speaker. So that we can start from there. Then we can carry the speaker to audition amp and see which amp drives them best within ones budget.

The target of audio for stereo and audio for HT is quite different. Music mostly preferred as laid back, smooth rendering rolled of highs tight bass. On the other hand movies demand attacking sound, a bit bright highs add the flavour in action movies, bass with more volume is desired in movies.

Now, I would say you target speaker for music and repair the wharfedale and put it as dedicated front channel. Don't throw it off because the cabinet, crossover is still good enough to do the job. Just add the drivers. It won't break your bank!
