Friends, I'm new to world of audiophiles.. I mostly listen to music through my Android Xperia SP which sounds good enough to me..I don't use CD players and neither do I know what good is a receiver.. Recently I decided to buy a mini HiFi system and finalized Sony MHC-ECL7D and while searching for the reviews, luckily stumbled upon this forum.. The things discussed here are rocket science for me..I want a good speaker -woofer system.. My requirements are nice and clear sound and heavy and deep bass.. It doesn't matter if it's a bookshelf or any other thing.. Please recommend me a good system within 20k..I read good reviews of Polk Audio Rti-a1 and swan m50w..Are these what I need? Thanks in advance..

No bookshelves speakers either actives or passive are going to give you heavy and deep bass at this budget. You are better off with 2.1 system and Swans M50W is the best 2.1 system available till 30k.

This might seem a little childish and maybe annoying question, but what would you recommend - sony mhc-ecl7d or swans m50w? I heard swans could churn out only 100 w rms as against 650 w rms in sony...

Sony is lying - purly lying
From where tou get 650 watts figure..

From
MHC-ECL7D : Mini Hi-Fi System : Hi-Fi System : Sony India

it is 470 watts

now 470 watts is is bigggg power - unbareble in most of the homes

Now find out electrical power consumption of this system - unfortunatly manual is not there it MUST be much more than 470 wattts

as

Output +Losses = Input

Got it??

I've never auditioned swans..I went to a Sony showroom and auditioned the mhc-ecl7d .. It sounded quite powerful..Bass will be definitely more in sony.. But, I think I will go with swans.. I've read beautiful reviews about the system and I want to experience it's clarity.. Thanks for the support guys

I would suggest you look at Norge amps and some second hand book shelf speakers. Do look around in the for sale section of this forum. You will not be disappointed.

I suggest to go for any use stereo amplifiers around 15k.
Old Marantz,Nad,Arcam alpha series.
Speakers used - Mission, Qacoustics (around 15k)

sir

if you like the sony
its presentation and the kind of bass it gives floats your boat

then please know the swans and other speakers most members review on this forum are gonna disappoint you

if sony floats your boat please buy it
the worst thing is buying something you have not heard

P.S : sir
you need to hear stereo setups
and hear quite a few of them to know whats happening and whats differnt from the sony that you have auditioned
Only then will you understand the reviews on this forum

Completely agree with magma
Think of the Sony as the first step to hifi
At this stage most bookshelfs + amplifier will not appear too good to you. I suggest you use the Sony for a while till you can identify shortcomings in it

There was a time when I believed Sony system equates to hi-fi. And yes as a beginner I did want a lot of boom boom bass. I'd say if that is what you'd like to listen to. Go for it.

However, as your understanding and tastes evolve you will appreciate true hi-fi. It takes some time to get there. If you want to get a taste of music now; I say audition few of the hifi equipment in your area.

Hey. Have an almost new tripath amp available for sale. This an Indeed TA2021 and can drive efficient speakers very well. Let me know if u are interested.

I have dumped sony hifi and am confused more than ever..There are two options- either to go for swans m50w, which has inbuilt amp, I suppose, which will cost me Rs.22k ; or buy ae2/ yamaha ns8390 along with av receiver.. The speakers themselves cost around 15k and receiver will surely cost 10-15 k, for a total of 25-30 k...please suggest which way to go. Also, please suggest a suitable amp for ns 8390 within 15 k..As you can see, I've already overstretched nearly two times my budget. Source is mobile/laptop, and bluetooth streaming with fm receiver is preferred..Thanks

After lot of experiments in my hifi journey. I am finally settled with
TP20 + JBL Control1xtreme (source is my computer, no DAC...)
After experimenting with gr8 vacuum tube based sound systems, single driver speakers, DAC, optical inputs, high-end media quality.. I feel very much pleased and relaxed to settle with this very simple system. more complex systems only adds complexity in music listening.
