As a user of the CXN V2 for over half a year now, I shall try and answer your query ‘whether it delivers on the hype’. The answer is a clear ‘yes’. It’s a sturdy, classic looking piece of equipment, with some nice touches (display and knob), an improved app (Stream Magic), natively plays Tidal and Spotify, airplays from any app on mobile devices, has built in (not via any intermediate app) thousands of internet radio stations, plays hi-res (but not MQA if you are inclined that way), has reliable connectivity and a fun, engaging sound.
Are there other options? Yes. And some play MQA, some are Roon ready, some have better DAC, so it depends on what you are looking for. I’d say the Cambridge CXN V2 is more likely to interest a mid-aged music explorer with wide taste in music and bias towards classicism.
