Hi FMs,

Many of us own Projectors where they haven't given a simple lens cap to protect the lens which is a dust magnet. My Acer H5370BD has a very good quality carry case which is obsolete now but they forgot a lens cap :clapping:

I measured the outer cover of the lens which also doubles up as a fine tuning knob. It is 60mm, can any of you suggest a lens cap which will be used for camera for this application.

Can I buy this?
REAR LENS CAP+CAMERA BODY CAP FOR NIKON D3100 D3000 D60 D 5100 D5000 D40 | eBay

How will be the other side of this?

Thanks,
Prem

Many FMs from Bangalore have DSLRs. I suggest borrow the lens cap from some FMs to try. Go ahead and buy the one that fits well.

Thanks ranjeetrain, I posted here in hifi because we have a mix of FMs who are into photography and hifi. I am sure someone have already implemented it here. If not, I will have to approach my DSLR friends.

^^ Did you try any DSLR Lens cap yet.. Let me know your thoughts... I am planning to get an additional one.. I have a DSLR camera but only one Lens Cap.. so might have to get another one.. so checking if you have already done that.. :)

camera lens caps are of squeeze and release type latch mechanism however for the case with 5370 the lens is bulbous as well as it opens up towards the outside which will make it impossible for the any lens cap to get a hold off.

what you need is a bigger plastic cap which will fit over the fine tuning knob.

A diy i would suggest is we find a lot of round boxes in our kitchen. find a box cap maybe a few mm larger than the outer tuning ring and then put 2-3 layers of surgeon's tape ( it will be soft ) and make a DIY cover which will not touch the lens and also keep it air sealed to prevent dust accumulation.

" these days a lot of sweet boxes have similar caps " else local china bazaar can help. just take the diameter of the ring and start hunting... :D

what we need is something like this... not worth the price of plastic.. rather make one ..
though one item missing from the kitchen might get you angry glares :):)

I stayed away from this as my usage is very frequent, It is now mounted in ceiling and this openin and closin process will alter the PJ alignment. Since I have a dedicated room, dust also gets controlled to an extent.

Let us see if anyone comes up with a creative solution.

A stopgap solution could be to use elastic bowl covers. They actually come in real handy for covering bowls and boxes before you put them away in your fridge. The concept is real simple - it is a small plastic bag with an elastic around it. In other words, it is a glorified shower cap that comes in various sizes :)

Here's an example and more examples. Also sold in dollar stores. I think you might be able to find it in your city as well (but not sure). You should be able to use it to cover your lens cap. You can also put and pull it quite gently so it should not disturb your pj alignment.
