Hi parora.

I can give you some recommendations on what to buy and where to buy. Give me a call anytime on the following mobile nos. + 668 19107138 and +668 47112299. If you have a local sim card, then just dial 0819107138 or 0847112299. You can also sms me and give me the name and details of your hotel so that I can call you.

Last week I was quoted THB 20,500 for the Denon 1911 from the shop called "Future World" which is in Klong Toey around the Bangkok Customs and Port area. The shop no. is 02-2496223. I doubt they would understand and converse in English properly.

In case you are interested in Yamaha or Onkyo, the best place to buy would be "Sangchai-Kaset". This shop is in Ratchayothin area towards the north side of Bangkok. They can actually deliver to your hotel and collect the cash or swipe your credit card on the spot. Here are the models that I was quoted for last weekend:

Yamaha RX-V667 for THB 22,000
Yahama RX-V767 for THB 24,000
Yamaha RX-V1067 for THB 33,500
Onkyo TX-NR609 for THB 22,000
Onkyo TX-NR708 for THB 32,000

I had actually purchased the Yamaha RX-V1067 on Saturday night and returned it to them on Monday due to audible sound coming from the Audio source for which there was no RCA cables connected. Secondly, the system played the sopngs on the USB as a much slower pace which made the sound seem odd. The shop agreed to accept and exchange the Onkyo TX-NR609 and returned the difference in the amount in cash (was pretty impressed with their service attitude - excellent). This shop is by far one of the cheapest that I have found for Yamaha, Onkyo, LG and JVC.

Just be careful in case you decide to buy Yamaha since the whole lot of 1067 and 767 seem to have problems with the mainboards. This Yamaha saleman informed me that several customers were returning their units within a short period of use.

Powerbuy is pretty expensive due to being large retail electronic chain stores (high overheads and admin costs, big profit margins). Their website: http:www.powerbuy.co.th

Piyanas is another AV store that is expensive. Here is their website: Piyanas Electrics

I am quite satisfied with the Onkyo after having it for two days now.

thanks ravin any idea where can we get marantz cdp ? My friend is also visiting son

Marantz authorized dealers in Thailand is "MRZ Standard Co. Ltd." They have their own showrooms and sales outlets under the name of Hi-Style at the "Siam Paragon" 3rd floor, and in Paradise on Srinakarin Road.

MRZ Standard do not publish their prices on the net. However, you can know the selling price from Piyanas Electric Piyanas Electrics

Other retailers such as "Sahavitayu" also carry Marantz, but sell at the same price as the authorized dealer. ???????????????-????????

Might as well buy it from Hi-Style in "Siam Paragon" where you can audition the CDP with a Marantz int. amp and Mordaunt Short or Klipsch speakers.

Can anyone help in buying an ipad2 from Bangkok.
Thanks.

iStudio are authorized dealers located in almost every department store in Bangkok.

Always ask the shop if they can do the VAT Refund for Tourists since you get back 7% in the airport.

CD6003 is the discontinued model and will probably be on discount now. Although the listed price is still high in Thailand, the authorized dealer here have slashed prices for most of their outgoing models.

The last time I checked prices about 2 months back, it was THB 17,900 for CD6003 and THB 9,900 for CD5003

Hello All,

There are gentle-man, they still do exist, and i found one of them in Bangkok.

My penultimate day of stay, and i lost all the hope and was feeling pretty down,( since i had built my hopes that i would be able to buy Denon 1911, cheaper than India, in Bangkok) but not to be be, and was almost on the verge of returning empty handed, and I get the call from this very helpful guy Ravin, a fellow forum member, and he was willing to cover miles to help me (he lived in the outskirts of the city, and I was almost in center). Ravin is a 3rd generation Indian settled in Bangkok, speaks more Thai than Hindi, but true to the spirit for a country-man, has a heart of gold( of course Indian). You can take an Indian out of India, but not India out of an Indian, what better example than this !

To cut the long story short, finally with his help I was able to buy the AVR,( and surprise-surprise, it is not a Denon, but Marantz SR5005), direct from the distributor. I auditioned denons and onkyos also, but immediately fallen for the sweetness of Marantz.

And, that was my last day of stay in Bangkok.

Well story does not end there, he took me to an Indian restaurant which has Jain food on offer (Yes ! in Bangkok !), and being a vegetarian, that was my first time in Bangkok, when I felt at home.

Thank you my friend, and that comes from the core of my heart.

Cheers,

Pawan

IMO unless buying higher end stuff ( 50K plus ) .. buying electronics from abroad makes no sense anymore.. India prices are almost the same ( if not cheaper )...plus you have warranty...
u may end up saving maybe 10% at the most in general.

Gentlemen don't go visiting Bangkok. Only bad boys do ... :D :ohyeah:

Therefore no Gentleman is responding ...

While you are there, can you get a break-up of cost and figure out why it is more expensive over there compared to here? Customs, taxes? Maybe they have a BarGirl Cess like we have Educational Cess over and above VAT?
