Hi friends,

Now our forum has grown a lot & we need to help each other with best possible knowledge.
Every year new models come in market & not possible to get Demo for every one.If we have a panal in each area(say Mumbai,Chennai,Bangalore..) who really can review product better,it will be very useful to us.

So-
1.Is there anyway that we select few members who can have a group demo to review & discuss the product?(area wise)

2.In advance, can we use "HIFIVISION" name for that to get proper Demo without ignorance?

Pls. input your thoughts.
Thanks.

We can have groups for each area.If panal has 6 members & 4 are free for Demo on same day, then with mutual understanding ,2 can let 4 have Demo OR likewise.

Sipro, getting people together even twice a month should not be an issue. The issue will be to get the units from the manufacturer. None of them will be ready to ship us a unit.

Cheers

We can have Demo @ Dealers place & hence we may need to use HFV name officially.
So there wont be any Demo piece handling, but getting rev @ dealers place.

Getting a demo in a dealer's place is always a half hearted affair. You have no control over speakers, cables and a lot of other equipment. In a review, you usually work with equipment you know and have used before and leave the unknown to a single equipment. That way you are sure of what you are getting. If everything is unknown, then the review will be meaningless.

Cheers

We have to do it like the magazines do. Get a unit on loan from a company/dealer, keep it with you for a little while, gather around and review the unit. Unfortunately no company or dealer will oblige.

Cheers

The problem is a proper Demo room, responsibility & other minor factors.
No other option?
Like we take individual Demo, we can go for group/panal Demo.

A demo is different from a review. A review needs a few days of working with a unit, trying various media on it, trying to push it beyond it's capabilities, some testing with equipment such as SPL meters etc.

Cheers

Hi Spiro,

It seems to me that your intention are very true to your heart.
One solution from my side:

We can chip in with guys who are probable buyers of amplifiers and speakers. This way we will be doing two jobs:
1. The potential buyer will be able to get a more detailed demo. Also, buyer can get our forum members expert advise within seconds.

2. HFV member can demo new speakers/amplifiers and give a review. I understand it will not be a detailed review. But still it will give some insight on newly launched products.

What is your suggestion on this? Will it work out?

Thanks

Yes, I was planning for same.
If we have a group Demo,we can review the product from buyers view.
It will help many others in true ways.
It can be transparent & helpful.

Shall we create a group of people who are willing to give their time for this.

So following things needs to be done:
1. We can have a separate thread for having names of volunteers location wise.

2. The potential buyer can ask for assistance on demo from above volunteers.
This does not imply that volunteer has to help potential buyer. If voulnteer is not available (due to any reason) then he can pass on the baton to other volunteer.

3. I understand this can be done at locations which have better availability of audio video stores such as Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune etc.

This will also help in better interaction between we forum members. I am just imagining if this is possible then it would be great! A wonderful way of helping others and meeting people.

Guyz maybe i can help...

We are coming up with a new showroom, within 2 months, at a very Prominant location in Bangalore...

Though Showroom will be open 7 dayz a week, but we can make some kind of arrangements once or twice a week...

The Demo Room will be properly acoustically treated by an expert from US...
It will have a 42" Plasma most probably Hitachi or Panny + a Fixed Frame Screen (plz dont ask me tht, its a surprise, but to tell you its one of the most expensive & High Quality screen available in World)...

Amplifiers will include Cambridge Audio 540R & Denon-1910 as recievers, NAD & Myryad as Integrated amps(model yet to be decided)...

Sources will be Bluray player, Media server, cd player, ipod connectivity, and a dvd player...

Cables will ofcoarse be QED...

So now that was brief about the showroom..

---------------------------------------------------

Now what we can do...

Once or twice a week, we will arrange 3-4 hrs for Demoing 3-4 products...

I will make arrangements for keeping amp/reciever, source, cables (for fronts only and interconnects) and ofcoarse speakers...

But, speakers needs to be arranged... and as you can understand, we will not be able to that...

----------------------

So do let me know, if that maybe useful...

Thank you Mridul for your generosity.
I am sure Spiro would be a happy man.

@Spiro,
Shall we start getting name of volunteers?

Thanks mridul, I was looking for similar option & you initiated it.

@Vivekam-
Yes we can start as I m ready. Many times a single person visits shop,he dont get proper Demo OR he dont know how to start with.In this case our views will help to choose correctly.

Guyz

I have a condition or you can say a fair suggestion as well...

Catch one location in Mumbai, Bangalore & maybe Delhi as well, and get all the Reviewing done at the same place only...
If you are forming a panel, people must not have there personal ego issues...
See there are a few reasons behind it...

1). No showroom owner would like to share there internal details, with the competitors...
2). Once you select one particular place, then it will be easy to demo and review the products, as the demo room conditions will be same.
3). Once you have one particular location, and you have a good goodwill, then you build yourself a hop in location as well, and even the reseller will be happy...

So, just think it from the view point of the reseller, and it will be easy to understand the same...

Hope i am not asking for much...???

I think having an AV Panel is a good idea. But execution of this idea is going to be difficult. Let alone factors such as bias, there would also be issues related to constraints while testing. For example, if a panel member were to go to an AV shop to conduct the review, then his review is limited to the shop's (possibly) sterile environment (where acoustic treatment may have been done).

This will work better if we can find people who have the space in their house and inclination to bring in products and listen to them on their own partnering equipment (which they know best).

The problem though with this style of review is that we might not be able to find resellers who are keen to part with their equipment to an individual's homes for review. Or will they? Question for the resellers really....
