Will there be any problems carrying power supply capacitors from the UK in check in baggage, cause these things are big. Will there be any issue at screening

for people buying from amazon and ebay.com using their credit cards, what are the charges levied by the credit card companies

i dont think so that it will be an issue as you can give a declaration for the items and whats the purpose for the same.. also just call up the airlinedesk and check with them.. that you want to carry the followng stuff that you have bought and they will be able to help you with the guidelines..

airline restrictions are absurd, and the people that enforce them are ignorant but...

If I was looking at that X-ray machine, and I saw the outlines+wires that large capacitors are going to show up as, I'd certainly want to check inside that case. What's more, I might even be nervous opening it!

Ive carried them from the US without any problem at all-100,000 mFs

was this recently or in the past when restrictions were a bit more relaxed. will it be allowed in the cabin luggage so that it is easier for them to inspect ?

Agree, most probably your baggage is going to be inspected manually. When I brought my Amplifier Kit and later when I brought AVR, both times TSA opened and inspected it.There was a letter inside baggage indicating it was opened and re-packed by TSA.

they are 33000uf 71 volt capacitors, around 9 cm tall and 5 cm wide.

Definitely do not carry these as checkin.

Its better to carry it as checked in baggage. In worst case, you would be called to inline screening area and asked to explain what it is.

For peace of mind:

1. Put it in checked in baggage
2. Affix original invoice on these
3. Use TSA approved lock
4. IMP: Check in AT LEAST 1.5 hours prior to deadline. This would ensure even if TSA decides on manual inspection, you baggage will travel in same flight.

I heard capacitors use material of the same chemical composition as RDX. :ohyeah:

Try holding a lit match to one of the legs if customs threatens to confiscate the caps :D

Just kidding.

cheers
