I have Marantz CD 6002 CD Player, woking fine for the last two years till yesterday. While playing one music CD the sound became erratic and after few seconds music completely stopped giving an Error indication. When I restarted the player, the display shows 'No Disk' indication and after few seconds it shows 'CD' indication. But when I press play no change. I tried with various CDs including few MP3 disks, but the display immediately go back to 'No Disk' and then to 'CD'

I would like to add that the room is quite dusty and reasonable dust might have entered inside.

Can someone suggest some clues to the problem and solutions.

Can I conclude the lens system is damaged ?

I am from Delhi.

Any repairer ?

The CD player is brought from Singapore by one of my friend.

Regards and Thanks in advance.

Hi vjc,

There is absolutely no reason to panic. Most likely the laser head needs a bit of cleaning. If you are not confident about opening the cabinet and do the wiping yourself, just get hold of a fellow Delhi member to do it. Sidharth Trehan from the Delhi area owns Marantz products (not the exact model you have) and seems like a very helpful chap and you can ask him for help I guess.

Regards.

Before you open it up, try a CD head cleaning disc. If it does not fix the problem, a DIY repair approach for this looks easy. I recall SoundsGreat had posted the trick on the forum some time back.

Cheers

Thanks Asit and gobble,

Mustering courage, I opened the top cover and made the following observations:

1. After the CD inserted into the tray, it goes into the postion and the lens comes to its position and hear a mild click sound. The 'No Disk' message is alreday there by now. When I press Play button, nothing further happens.
No further movement of the lens attachment.

2. The disk does not spin at all and remain stationary irrespective of any button is pressed on the player. No movement of the spindle motor also observed.

3. This may be indicating some power supply failure to the disk mechanism overall. But I did not find any burned or damaged components on the power board.

4. Before opening, I inserted a CD cleaning disk and invariably the 'No Disk' message appeared.

submitted for your valuable comments

Any expert available to get it repaired in Delhi .

Thanks

I continue to scratch my head !

Any suggestions or solutions ?

Taking it to a Philips service centre is advisable ?

Thanks .

hai dear, just open the case and clean the lens glass surface with ear bud. before doing that apply some shampoo on the ear bud and completely sqeeze the liquid. now you got the ear bud with gummy surface. justdo it

REPLACE SHAMPOO WITH ISO PROPYL ALCOHOL. Shampoo is for humans and some other members in the animal kingdom - not CD players.
