Hi

Iam looking for a 2.1 speakers for use with PC at price < 7k. Main usage is Music & movies. I wouldn't mind if it is a 5.1 It would be nice if the set up can be used with TV/DVD player also.

I have read some of the posts in forum on this topic & the following seem to be recommended..

1. Klipsch 2.1
2. Altec lansing MX5021
3. edifier c3

Any suggestions on the above or anything new?
Also where they can be auditioned in Chennai?

Why not a vintage amp+ vintage bookshelf , a la kenwood,sansui,technics etc

FDefinatly will sound better than pc speakers..

yes. But I mostly listen to CD's on my sony cd player.
So this ones just for casual listening when Iam at the PC. So budget is also less.

Infact I would like to stream my PC music and listen in cd player speakers - but they are in living room.

I do not wish to let down anyone but with personal experience with pc and periperals from a long time i would suggest that
in the range u provided...do no go for creative as....the sub is outta control ..will give u base when not needed..trust me....
2.1 jbl creature within the budget u gave.. not very powerful but balanced sound
5.1 altec lancing... good 5.1 option comes with a remote..

Hifimusic - if this is for music, then the Altec Lansing MX5021 is the best option. I have heard about recent quality control issues but I would not know about that as I got the speaker about 4 years back. It has not let me down as a PC speaker.

Yep music is what Iam interested in. Recently auditioned the famous Altec Lansing 4121 - it was a BIG let down. I guess they are not the same as before.
Will try MX5021 for sure. any idea on Klipsch price?

Ironhorse, can the 5.1 be used with DVD player?

Logitech 2.1 systems are also a good choice for casual listening.

Another option is to get a cheap DAC with USB input and a pair of used speakers if you want to go that route.

I am using a Klipsch Promedia ultra 2.0 for the last 2 years. Absolute value for money. The lows are clean even without a sub. I suggest you go for the Promedia 2.1.

Check with Audio People if they have one in stock so that you can have an audition. They distribute Klipsch products.

As Peri said, you should try the mentioned Klipsch speakers. Here's a nice review for the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0.

Unfortunately Klipsch discontinued the Promedia ultra 2.0. The new versions are Promedia 2.1 and Promedia 2.1 wireless. Both these models come with a great sub.

My friend has Creative T40 (2.0) speakers and I must say they are pretty good. Of course they don't offer deep low-end but they have clarity and good loudness.

T40 is around 10k, maybe T20 could be an option for you.

yes, u can use the 5.1 with the dvd player..in fact it has got a aux in that u can connect ur phone or laptop output as well..also got an option where u can get the sound from all the five speakers instead of two in stereo mode..
