Confused between PEQ and GEQ

Have been using my setup since few months now but still I am confused between equaliser settings. I randomly set GEQ bands few weeks ago and it sounded great like clear highs and sub got punchy instead of rattling but everytime I watch a movie for like 2 hrs it used to give me a fatigue that for the whole day I couldn't stand any sound further. Then just few days ago I set the eq to peq and the sharp frequencies and stuff that gave me fatigue got controlled but now the sub is boomy rattling and not punchy at all.

So my concern is what setting you guys recommend and using? PEQ vs GEQ vs Off? Also if GEQ what's the proper band setting to use?

Thank you.

From what i know of Yamaha receivers, here is how it works -
1. PEQ is automatic equalization that the receiver applies. You need to run YPAO room correction and when you choose PEQ, then the equalization settings derived from YPAO room correction are applied by the receiver. Choosing PEQ without running YPAO first - not sure how this works, but it certainly wouldn't be very helpful.
2. GEQ is manual equalization. If you want, you can setup equalization yourself by moving the frequency levers. Obviously this is for advanced users and control freaks and has the potential to go wrong (boominess, fatigue etc)

Hmmm no wonder I am saving fatigue :/ and Any suggestions to increase the sub thump while using PEQ? [emoji848]

um, I would suggest trying to read up on how graphical and parametric equalizers work.
Trying to tweak them without understanding them would ruin the sound

not sure about your current sytem, but

set the center frequency to somewhere in between 60-80 hz. set q/width at the broadest setting.

If you are trying to enhance sound, what works for one type of music might not work for the other

My HT specs are in my sig below, and as my AVR is basic one it doesn't have individual crossover settings for each speaker.

TBH now with PEQ enabled i am getting used to the sound as it doesn't hurt my ears and head anymore but all i need now is to find a way how to make the SUB punchy like it was in GEQ setting. :/
