Denafrips Dac

Terminator is indeed better then Yggy anyday. But when it comes to the mid Freq warmth, the Yggy had an upper hand ( spk was ATC driven by various amps)
But with the present amp and spk ,I did not get a chance to compare Yggy and Terminator.
Cheers.

Have Heard most Multibits from Schiit, except Yaggy ; owned Gumby for more than a year.
Recently auditioned the denafrips Ares2 at home & was totally impressed by the Tonality and presentation. It fits perfectly with the type of sound I was looking for. It's close to Gungnir but a bit more flexible, fluidly (for lack of better word). Of course on AB comparison Gumby will have its Strengths. The preference may be subjective, but I definitely liked Ares2.

Anyways, ordered Ares2 right away! Personally speaking ; it hasn't happened quite often that, I couldn't live without certain device in audio chain after listening , but Ares2 and Freya+ clearly standout.

No wonder Audiogon user reviews are quite superlative for denafrips DACs but SBAF forum favors Schiit products in comparison. Venus should easily be better than Yaggy as far as Agon reviews go, but unless you listen you can't be sure. Pontus doesn't have good reviews per se (mostly mixed reviews) , so from Ares2 the next jump should be to either Venus or Terminator. The incremental upgrade may not be very good penny wise but most of the times it never will be as far as my experience goes.

@op I haven't heard either Venus or Termi but if it's 3x or even 2x of what Ares2 offers, it's probably the best DAC from the price point. I'd gladly upgrade next year to either one of the two. Ares has already a version 2, so I'm expecting version 2 for other DACs from denafrips in coming months. I don't think you'll go drastically wrong with Either one of Denafrips DACs.
Hi,
Just want your inputs on the following points -
1. What is the landing cost in India incl customs
2. What would be the ideal streaming platform to enjoy the full scale of Ares 2
I primarily use Tidal .

thanks in advance

I got a chance to audition the Terminator DAC last weekend.
The DAC excels in imaging & tonal accuracy.
Compared to the Pontus the Terminator sound more detailed & imaging is far superior.
I find the DAC very clean sounding and with good quality content its full potential can be utilized.

The DAC portraits the flaws in recording quality when you throw a poor quality content, the Pontus though is not very transparent as the Terminator.
The Terminator can also be used in NOS/OS mode, iteratively both yield different signatures.

In NOS mode I found the imaging even more focused, and it added a little emphasis/weight or body to instruments.

Hi

1. Denfrips Ares II might be around 75K - 78K wherein original price is SGD 1029. You can work backwards. Typically its about 35% - 40% inclusive of custom duties, GST, etc. If you order via Fedex, there's 10$ fee they charge as well.

2. Any lossless streaming format would be ideal to get max out of it. If you can connect to SACD/ DSD via usb, that works well too! Tidal seems to be the best option for now, till Spotify Hi-Fi is available.
