Denon 1612 Audyssey setup

Hi Guys,

Had searched a lot but couldn't find all the info I needed

I would like to know how to set the audyssey in denon 1612 properly, there are manual and auto options, how to go about these and which one is better

if any owner of these avr did their audyssey setup pls share your experience and steps in doing so.

Did you buy denon 1612? Setting up audessey in denon 1612 is easy. You will be presented with a wizard GUI to do the necessary steps when you plugin the audessey mic or when you turn on the receiver for the first time. Just follow the wizard to set up your AVR. unfortunately i did not get an audessey mic with my Denon 1612, the installation guy told me it does'nt make much of a difference you can set it manually it is better...

Denon 1612 comes with a mic. It is hidden under the thermocol that is used to protect the avr. Check the package carefully. I hope you haven't destroyed the package. When my denon 1612 arrived, I was frustrated not to find the setup mic. I called the seller and he said he will look into the matter. But then it struck me - I have read in avsforum this:

a. Audyssey Mic Not Included: If you think Denon forgot to ship the Audyssey mic with your new AVR ... check again. The mic is located inside a small white box that is embedded inside the stryrofoam packaging itself so check all around the styrofoam. If you have an older Denon AVR, this mic is the same mic (DM-A409) that is used on all XX09/x89 and newer Denon models. If you do find the mic missing, you cannot use just any mic from another brand as the DM-A409 has been specifically calibrated to work with your Denon AVR. Contact Denon for a replacement or call your local Best Buy as they sometimes will have extra mics laying around from their demo units (ensure you get a DM-A409 though). The Audyssey mic cable length is 25'. If you have the AVR located in a closet or some distance from the main zone, you can buy a 25' extension cable like this one; however, 50' from the AVR to the mic is the maximum length that Audyssey recommends.

whoaaaaaa!!!!! i found my mic.... i thought the dealer stole it or something.... and the funny thing is i had kept the box on the staircase for kachra wali to pick it up ...
but she said i will take it today... tomorrow and kept dealying it ....

yeah well, I got 1612 now and yeah finding the mic was a big task for me also, some how I have a habit of disintegrating whole thermocol from a new box and hence found it, I was about to call the retailer (he's my frnd anyways) but saw that small box with mic

have you did the auto setup of manual audyssey ?

No, Audyssey can setup for 2 channel as well.
Even 2 channel you feel the difference after audyssey setup.

Actually the auto setup will detect the number of speakers connected to the avr and then calibrate accordingly. I currently have 2.1 with my 1611 and had no problem in running the audissey setup.
Just follow the instructions on the screen and most important: make sure that ambient noise is as less as possible, keeping windows & doors closed, fans switched off and better run it at night when it is relatively less noisy.

hmm that seems a trouble business

how abt doing manual audyssey setup ? I saw a manual mode of audyssey as well, what that will do and also I saw a cinema EQ, If I set it to ON what will happen and where can I find its equiliser after I put it to ON

Don't worry. The test signals are very brief pulses of audio energy, not like continuous noise.
I would recommend not to try manual setting as there are too many parameters like individual channel level (dB), speaker distance from listening position, frequency curves for each channel, low-pass freq for the sub etc. And it will be difficult to achieve a perfect setting in the first attempt starting from scratch.
Run the audissey once and then, you may use that as a base for tweaking further manually, depending on your taste.

I had done the cross over as 150 HZ to all speakers and LFE as 120 HZ
