I want to go for a Home theater and was checking for Denon 1912 in Amazon.de

I got the following (translated)

Order Summary
Item: EUR 469.00
Packaging & Shipping: EUR 15.50
Total amount: EUR 484.50

Above rates are inclusive of VAT.


There is no customs charges. My address is Kolkata. Will I be charged afterwards towards customs? Please somebody can clarify? Is euro 484 right price?
 
At an exchange rate of Rs70 to a Euro. 484 euros works out to Rs33,830..
Considering it is available in India for around 35,000 - 37,000 .. Does it really make sense considering the difference in price is only 1500 - 3000 ...

Plus in India, you would get it with bill and warranty. Ordering it from Amazon.de would not hold an Indian warranty

So the extra 1.5 - 3k cost difference would buy you peace of mind

Thanks for the prompt response. I entirely agree with you. But in kolkata the profx guy quotes a price of >42k. Where can I get it for 35k?

There will be a refund of VAT and addition of customs duty when you complete the transaction. It makes more sense to buy locally.

I bought Denon-1912 from Amazon.de 6 months back and that time euro was at 64, so everything came to be 29K. There won't be any other customs charges and you will receive the product within 4-5 days at your door-step after you place the order. No need to worry about customs, Amazon will take care of all that.

At that time I checked everywhere in India and the least price quoted was 38K without manufacturer warranty and only dealer warranty. Only if you get manufacturer warranty it is good. Anyways it holds only for 1 year and normally nothing will happen within one year if properly maintained.

You can check Profx Bangalore, now some sales are going on for Denon 1912.

The customs duty exemption is upto 35k. Considering that u may land up with Chinese make (not that it matters!), it would be sensible to buy from Kolkatta. Try negotiate and if u can get it within 38k its worth it.

AFAIK custom duty exemption upto 35k applies only to goods that you carry on person (or in check-in baggage) while returning from a trip abroad. It has got nothing to do with goods that are imported through other means like amazon, shopyourworld, ebay GEB etc.

guys correct me if I am wrong.

Coming to the topic. Frankly with @ 70 it doesn't make much sense to get it from amazon.de. It was a delicious deal when was 65-66 and amazon was selling it @ 349/- (including VAT), thats when it came to INR 29k landed.
Surprisingly Pro-Fx who claim to be authorized dealers for Denon do not offer it below INR 45.9k - 10% disc. When i informed the Mulund (Mumbai) ProFx store that there other sellers selling at lower, they gave me a rude reply that "this is what we offer, nothing more. you are free to buy from wherever, but we are sure you won't get warranty or support form them"... Hallo...! :rolleyes:

I called Htstore in JPnagar bangalore, they quoted me 39k for 1912 over phone. hope i can negotiate 1000 bugs less while finalizing the deal.

ProFX bangalore gave me quote of 45900 with 10% discount, i asked him for 39k and he said he will try while finalizing the deal.

39k for 1912 is a good deal ?
 
39K with b&w sounds good, but still a little high. Try to get him down to 36-36.5k. All the best

Finally bought my denon 1912 for 38k with B&W in bangalore.I know rs1500 less would be a good deal, but in most places denon 1912 is going out of stock..so decided to compromise the extra money.
