Hi all,
I am planning to purchase an amplifier.
speaker are woodstock- 300 watts peak power, 8 OHMS, MODEL-M II K.
which amplifier I should go for?
I also want the amplifier with the best components inside. Heavy unit is preferrable.
I have only two speakers.
Should I go for only amplifier OR audio video receivers?
I think amplifier is the better option in case of TWO CHANNELS.
YAMAHA OR DENON .
I want the best amplifier in terms of sound, bass effect and durability.
ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED
BUDGET IS 30-50K

I do fully agreed with baijuxavior...you should state which one are you interested in, i.e, home theater or stereo...for home theater Denon is definitely above Yamaha...try to buy the Denon AVR 2805 (build in Japan), it is an old model but the quality is very excellent..I have been using 2805 for the last 7 years and without problem at all...For stereo, I would not recommend both of them..for stereo you must use preamplifier and power amplifier components, if the cost is a concern then you can consider integrated amplifier. The brand that I can recommend for preamp, power or integrated amp are the following
01. McInstosh (made in USA)
02. Burmester (made in Germany)
03. T+A Elektroakustik (made in Germany)
04. Naim Audio (made in UK)
05. Chord Electronic (made in UK)
06. YBA (made in France)
07. Conrad Johnson (made in USA)
08. Bel Canto (made in Italy)
09. Mark Levinson (made in USA)
10. Viola (made in USA)
11. Sim audio (made in Canada)

There are still thousand brands are hanging around in the market and I cannot mention one by one...but definitely if you want to play hi end audio better consider the brand which are not mass market production. The list above are really pioneer in Hi End audio and they are not mass market production..so they still build the components in house and only produce if there is an order.

If you want AVRs then I would recomend Denon as the new Yamaha series is a bit disappointing in comparison with the older models (before 467/667 etc.) But if its stereo amp you're looking for then definitely Yamaha would be my clear choice simply for it's analogue/variable loudness control function...

Dear Mr Varma Vikas,

I would go for Sim Audio instead of Naim Audio...you may ask me why?..The answer is go to Audio Showroom and compare it between those two..can you make the difference? Do not look at the price at the beginning... Sim Audio for your level is more than enough....

HI Ylesmana,
How are you doing? I tried to find you on face book but I found three results with your name.
I tried to call sim audio but their contact number is not working. I think I should get my woodstock amp repaired till the time because I am highly satisfied with the performance of that. Till the time I will wait for mac Intosh for their official announcement in india . because as of now every system like Sim or anyother amplifier (except NAD) is atleast 3 times of my budget. I do not want to go for nad. Is there some way to give order for the amp like Mac Intosh (according to the specifications of the speakers) and they send the amplifier here in India to me at my address?

Thanks and regards

Hi Sandeep,
Thankyou for your reply and concern.
Actually I have observed that everything which is old has got the good reviews regarding the performance and quality both but now a adays everything is getiing light in terms of performance and durability.
I am looking for the performance and durability both so that I will not be running to the service centers later on to get my amp repaired.
But I feel that nothing is there in the market wich can provide quality at good price. I f some one provides quality then he asks for the hell lot of money.

I have woodstock amplifier which I had purchased for rs.10,500 only and no amp in toda's time can beat that.quality speakes from itself. They never advertised themselves for the marketing OR profit motive.. I will not talk about amp like macintosh and sim audio but they are costing somewhere in lakhs.

Very very difficult to choose.
Thankful to u for your reply.

Hi Vikas,

You can come to Jakarta, Indonesia or Singapore to purchase Sim Audio, McIntosh and any other brands...am not too sure if you want to buy McIntosh Labs audio without go for audition. The cheapest one for integrated amplifier from McIntosh in my place Jakarta, Indonesia is 4000 USD...preamp and power will cost more...

Hi Ylesmana,
I have checked the price of 2102 and 275 .It will cost me somewhere around 3000-4000 usd. I have already sent a query about the procedure to get the amp here in india to the official mail of mcintosh. Sim audio and mcintosh are costing the same allmost. Lets hope for the best.

I am glad to know you are choosing McIntosh, it is a very good brand and very well known too...McIntosh is famous for tube amplifier, if this what you are looking for then please go ahead. Tube amp is good for listening vocal music where as solid state is good for instrumental music like classical music. So please let me know your final decision.

I have added you in facebook...

Hi Yelsmana
I have got the dealer of naim audio . I talked to him and he suggested the model naim nait 5i for my speakers(woodstock 300 watts peak power,,,,,mentioned on the back of the speakers). One dealer told me that my speakers are 100 watts RMS . Another dealer told me that these are 150 watts rms. so would naim nait 5i would be sufficient to drive these speakers . Naim nait 5i is 50 watts x2 channel. this amp will cost 2000 usd to me.

vikas varma naim audio

will this naim nait 5i sound better than any Denon or Yamaha? I think it will sound better as they are making very good quality. or should I go for mcintosh later on? why I am saying this because I am a person who loves my electronic items and I dont want to change these again and again. If I purchase one amp then I would like to keep it for say 10, 15 or 20 long years. This is the reason I am confused. This time I would like to get it for very long time. I can wait to get my budget adjusted according to mcintosh if it will cost more than 3000 usd. I will wait for that but if mcintosh is the best I would like to gor for that.

In indian currency naim nait 5i will cost 1.9 lakhs to me(2000-2200 usd). This is twice of my budet but somehow I will manage with this budget. But if I opt for mcintosh I would have to wait for some time but I would like to opt for the best possible I can go for.

Hello boss, definitely Naim above Denon or Yamaha, you cannot compare mercedez benz and maruti suzuki...in terms of sound performance..I would suggest you go to the dealer and ask for audition..if necessary bring your own speaker and see whether you are happy...I definitely either Naim or McIntosh will do.

I can tell that European Hi End Audio Systems have soft character where USA Audio Systems have rough and fast character...My personally doesnt like USA brands but some people do....The only thing I bought from USA are cables. European does not make a good cable (according to my standard opinion but dont generalized it).

Re: vikas varma naim audio

Hi Charan
I have not calculated mathematically. I have just given an idea. It wil be 2400 usd approx.

HI
I am trying to get in touch with sim audio also.
I like their moon 640i however expensive i think. waiting for their reply.
I also do not want to go for u.sa products. Checked for rothwell also. Getting more and more confused. but I think british products are very well made. It is my own experience that usa products are not compatible in every sense when comes to other country. Like I have worked with mobile phones earlier and I found that apple ipods and apple phones are not fully compatible with the phones here in india. For example their bluetooth can not be paired with any other phone except apple.
Oh my god . selecting an amp is so difficult.
I found rothwell is not so expensive.

My boss Vikas,

You cannot compare mobile phone and audio...it is two different world...Music is an art and does not have boundary...it is up to personal taste.... A lot of people in my country Indonesia, Jakarta like USA brands such as McIntosh, Audio Research, Krell, Mark Levinson, Red Rose Music, Viola, etc...and in fact the USA brands is far ahead compare to European brands but this does not mean the European systems are bad...England used to build a very good Hi Fi systems but now the trend is changing...they are more concentrate into mass production.

I know rothwell too and yes, choosing an amplifier is very difficult especially if you have limited budget. For your information, I set my limit 40,000 USD with additional margin 15,000 USD so total 55,000 USD for audio systems (pre amplifier, power amplifier, turntable, power conditioning, phono pre amp and cables). I listened several brands and narrow it until it came the big three in my mind which was McIntosh, Burmester and T+A Elektroakustik then narrow it into 2 which left me Burmester and T+A Elektroakustik until I listened carefully for sometimes before made final decision.

Yes , you are right dear. mobiles have got so many conditions. Lets see what is there in my destiny. If I choose an amp of 50watts x2 OR 100x2, will it be correct to drive the speakers of 150 watts OR the amp should be more powered than the speakers?
