Hi,

I have got one 8 years old Pioneed DVD player.

Can it be converted or used as a DAC?

Since i have bought sony Blue ray player iam not using this pioneer now.

Please guide.

What do you mean by using dvdp as dac? Every dvd or bdp has a DAC. Use the digital out put of your dvdp and check whether the sound quality is of your liking.

Hi friends,

Sorry, my doubt was whether i can use this as DAC to improve my
computer music sound quality.

Thanks.

maybe you can. you will have to hack out i2s signal from your comp (I don't know if it is possible) and feed it to your dvdp's dac's i2s input. However, I am not sure if your dvdp will even realize that there is signal present at the input, as its fw may think otherwise if there is no dvd being played. Though you can fool it by playing some random dvd.
Give it a try if you have time and patience.

You can use it as you intend provided
1)your computer has sound card with digital 'out' i.e. Optical or coax out.

2)the dvdp that you have has digital 'in' socket.

I dont think the older dvdp will have digital in socket. Even the newer ones except the very expensive models do not have it.

If you are well versed with modifying circuits then it is a different issue. You can use DAC Part and power supply of the dvd Player with some modification. I am not expert in this. You can contact Hari Iyer on forum. There will be few others who can guide you.
