Hi,

I have connected my newly acquired equalizer as below & it functions as desired. I have it ONLY for the tape playback just to derive some punch while some old cassettes are being played.

Cassette Deck(LINE OUT) ---> EQ(LINE IN); EQ(LINE OUT) ---> AMP(TAPE IN)

As per my understanding, there should not be output when the EQ is completely unplugged or when it is powered off. But I am able to listen music even when the EQ is powered off or unplugged. Of course, there won't be output when I unplug the EQ(LINE OUT) RCA connections.

So, it seems the audio/analog signal flow from the EQ which is connected b/w deck & amp via RCA connectors even when it's unpowered/unplugged. Is there something more to this or just basic electronics? I am aware that certain appliances consume power when they are just turned off yet connected to power supply. But, I am kind of confused with the above.

Please clarify.

Thanks!

which amp do you use?
does it have a tape monitor option?

Sorry, I should have mentioned.

Amp: Yamaha AX-596; no specific label as Tape Monitor, but, does have the inputs for tape - TAPE IN(PLAY) & OUT(REC).
Cassette Deck: Nak BX-125
EQ: Teac EQA-220

Just to add, this one has a pre-main coupler too. I tried connecting the EQ to this, but, I did not see the spectrum for any source. As I just wanted the EQ for the cassette deck & not for the others, I simply connected as mentioned in my above post.
