Well no news from TATA Sky but BIG TV were supposed to launch HD channel in india in 2008 and now they claim its gonna be this year just wait n watch.

Broadcast HD standards accross the world include 720p & 1080i. In the US, most sports channels are in 720p while the other channels are broadcast in 1080i. As for DTH, even 1080p is now being offered for 'pay per view' channels.
