I am a great fan of instrumental music,
Saxophone, Trumpet.....
While growing up in Thirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, POORNAKALA theatre was a favourite one. They used to play a beautiful tune at the beginning of each show as the curtain was raised. I used to love this music that they played ( might be horn based system). Much later I searched for and found that it was hot butter popcorn.
Thirunelveli has numerous temples. They would hold ten day festivals every year and on these occasions, we would enjoy the music of 'Nadaswaram' and the intoxicating beat of the 'Thavil'. It was an amazing combination.
My native place Palayamkottai ( called Oxford of South India) in Tirunelveli also has many churches. Where I got the experience of western instrumental music.
I have loved instrumental music since then and have a good Vinyl and cds collection of it.
I am sharing a few of my favourite videos here.
