I have to say I was disappointed with this guy. First his prices are very steep (which is his every right to price it whatever he wants), but he sold me a product and basically lied about some of the things. I bought an amp from him and after getting it home and testing it out, it faced several problems. He told me it was serviced recently, but it doesnt look like it's been touched. I keep kicking myself for not testing out the phono stage at his place (he assured me he had tested it and it worked) but 2/4 inputs didn't work in the amp.

As it is I felt bad paying 12k for an old amp, but it was made ever worse that the transaction was less than honest. Will not buy again from this guy. If you're buying, please be sure to check everything at his place very throroughly. I am now facing big headache of getting this amp repaired.

I paid 3k for a broken philips 242 tt......less said the better

Just sharing learning from my experience.

When you approach an seller of used/vintage seller please ascertain, whether he is a dealer or an audiophile turned in to dealer or an audiophile who want to sell his unused equipment.

1. Buying from a dealer is a neutral situation, they will always sell the equipment on "as it is basis", they will not tell what is working, what is not working, you check and decide. They will price reasonably. Ex. Once I got a TT from a dealer for Rs.1000/- with Speed problem. After Service the TT was working fine.

2. Buying unused stuff from an audiophile is a safe option but they will always charge you a premium for the attached emotion .EX-once got a NAD AMP[C350] and CD player in stunning condition for 40,000/-

3. The so called "Audiophile turned in to Dealers" are the most dangerous one. They keep on buying stuff from market. Good ones find a place in their audio chain and bad ones are posted on online sites for some body to be fooled and money to be recovered. Ex- Do not want to remember.

I would agree that there are some dealers who are more interested in making money and don't mind cheating the prospect customer. It would be better and safer to purchase from an individual owner who would generally be honest and post a good ad with the required details. At least you have an option of going to the seller's place and testing the equipment to the core before the cash purchase.

We do have a couple of so called dealers in Mumbai who just keep buying equipment and reselling them for a quick buck...I recall one of my friends posting an ad for his hifi on olx and maximum calls received were from dealers who were TRUE HARD bargain experts....my friend got fed up and removed the ad as it was pointless and kept the hifi to be used as a portable set for picnics / outings etc....one must be very cautious when attempting to buy pre owned goods.
