Last week I finally switched over to a new set up consisting of the mighty fine Heybrook TT2 belt drive turntable, Sumiko MMT tonearm, Denon DL103 and AD797 MC phono stage after seven years of using the Garrard 301, SME 3009 Series II Improved and Shure V15 Type III with Jico SAS stylus. The Heybrook was lying in the storage for six years and the Sumiko for five years (such a travesty).

It is a beautiful set up and I would like to give a loud shout out to Joshua who was instrumental in setting up the Sumiko (the Heybrook came with a Linn arm which I sold to a Russian buyer on eBay just days after getting hold of the TT) and giving the final touches to the phono stage. An equally loud shout out to Sachin for putting together the AD797.

It has been just about 10 hours and the DL 103 and AD797 are in the process of breaking in. But even now the whole system sounds amazing and frankly I am not missing the 301 much. Just some work on cosmetics remains.

There are many comparisons between TT2 and LP 12 . I am a great fan of these suspended turntables of this era. I have an LP 12 , Systemdeck, AR the Turntable and a NOS Thorens TD 125 with SME 3012 arm. Though I have not come across a Heybrook yet, I am sure, it will sound similar to the four turntables mentioned above. They give a lot of air between instruments and the mids are amazingly appealing. Happy listening.

It is indeed a beautiful TT. In the 80's TT2 was called the poor man's LP12. But that was the 80s. Today, it can hold its own. I am really loving this one.
