Can anbody help me in upgrading the firmware for my Philips DVP3986 as i am doing it for the first time.

It's pretty easy actually. Just burn the updates on a re-writable CD/DVD (or as per instructions) and pop the CD/DVD into the DVDP and say yes when it asks to upgrade. It will do the rest and restart/reboot when done. Just follow the instructions on the website.
