mediainfo will give you many details including bit rate of files.

Here you can check source also.lf its original CD,then it should sound better.

I usually but the original Audio CD and then convert to FLAC using Exact Audio Copy.

EAC is free and what most people use, only drawback is that you'll have manually type the track name afterwards unless its a well known CD already in lookup database.
